I was just in Boise Idaho airport this past Thursday. The guy right in front of me put his carry-on bag onto the conveyor to go through that screening tunnel. Well, lets just say it about shut down the airport for about 5 minutes. The alternate TSA personnel were saying he has a gun,(in his bag)and its loaded.
The guy really did not look like he had any bad intentions. But glad they were watching. I am sure that cost him some pocket change.
Lots of guns are found at the screening process.

If you have something deemed illegal in your carry-on, the airport confiscates it unless you have a way to take it back out of the airport. They will not store it for you to pick up on your way back home. My needle nose pliers I was taking to Florida were in my carry-on. Didn't remember having them there rather than the other luggage. They were too long. Airport kept them. Wonder what they do with all the confiscated stuff. Sell it on ebay?Quote:

You HAVE to be smarter than that if you are going to carry a weapon.
A couple years ago I took a trip to Minnesota to attend a wedding. I just wanted to take a carry on and all I had at the time the right size was my range bag. I emptied everything out of the bag that was in there. When going through screening some sensor picked up the gun powder residue that was on the bag. They took me and the bag aside and checked everything in the bag and me. I had to go through the X-Ray machine. I told them what the problem was and didn't even consider this happening, my bad. After about 15 minutes of a thorough search of me and a bunch of questions they let me go through and suggested that I should not use that bag if I'm going to fly because it will surely happen again.
That should be their problem not yours. As long as carrying the bag is not illegal they should not harass you over it.Quote:

I have seen some eBay sellers posting confiscates from airlines. I may be wrong but I believe the airports or lines dump them in quantity at auction lots and the buyers put them on eBay. Stuff I saw was big lots of pocket knives and swiss army style knives plus other guy stuff.Quote:

Flying down to Bama one year I was pulled to the side. The person screening wanted to know what the object was in my carry on.

:thumb up2: That's a great attitude to have last year before Covid our Daughter, SIL and two Granddaughters flew down to see us. They had bought a stroller from a friend for the youngest one and there was some detected on it that raised the alarm.Quote:

Like you say glad they have the capabilities to check on residues that quick and keep us safe.
All free Americans should be able to carry guns on planes.
Always travel armed. Always check, as required. I Just wish every airport had the same procedures.

My wife was traveling for business. Our youngest son, about 5 at the time put one of his toy guns in her carry on without her noticing. They were actually pretty good about it but it still scared the crap out of her.
My wife and I flew out of Cedar Rapids a couple of years ago. I made it through fine but she was pulled aside. I walked over and asked what was going on. They said her corn nuts tested positive for explosives LOL. I stood a short distance away and watched. As I was standing there observing, I watched them remove a steak knife from a guy's shoe that was going through behind us. They took the knife without very little questioning and let him go on his way. I looked at the lady and said "WTF. I'd be more concerned about the concealed knife than a bag of nuts. How do you forget about a 6" steak knife in your shoe". They finally got on the big phone and she was cleared to fly. Still shaking my head on that one.
My buddy had a 1/2" end mill that was ground down to used for a snap ring groove cutting tool, forgot it was in his bag and they took that one real quick.

I just read an article today where they said that 4,432 were found in 2019 in carry on bags. That's a lot of forgotten guns.

True Story. We were flying on a contracted civilian aircraft from the US en-route to Afghanistan. The entire unit, in uniform, carrying M4s rifles and pistols, and I got stopped and told I couldn't carry my knife in my pocket...had to put it in my gun case...that was in my hand.
No but you can ship it in your checked luggage if you let the airlines know. And its unloaded and it a case if I'm not mistaken. They have got 6 pistols here at the Knoxville airport this year.Quote:
