Quick question on Navionics card, needing one that will cover all of Tenessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama with all the Platinum features. Going to Basspro this weekend.
For that coverage you will need 2 cards: Hotmap Platinum South6 and East6
I have a Gen2 touch. 9" at the console and 7" on bow. What is the difference in navionocs charts with sonar, hot maps, platinum+ etc. looking to get one but don't know what I really need.
I would recommend that you take a look on that page: http://www.navionics.com/en/hotmaps-platinum-1
Then click on: choose another coverage area and if the water you fish are on theat specific region then buy the Hotmap Platinum region. But if you travel and the one region doesn't cover the water you intent to fish then get a Navionics+
First, sonar is not part of the discussion on map sharing and neither is NMEA which only shares data. Ethernet between your units, simply, shares the pictures. Set both units under chart options to Navionics and it is automatic. Navionics has three excellent cards, each for an anglers specific needs. The absolute best and most featured card is the Hotmaps Platinum. It is a regional card (see Lowrance.com). It has customization and mapping abilities far more than any other card. Simply put, creating custom maps/fish finding locations, seasonal mapping customizations etc. This is the card that I use for Marine Dealer training. See my thread "Navionics and shaded depth 2" here on BBC from March of 2014 showing some examples and instructions.
The next card is the Navionics+ card which covers all of the USA and Canada and you just download the lakes you want anywhere. A great card used by traveling anglers BUT, it does NOT have the customization or abilities of the Platinum cards. Advantage is usable anywhere but at the compromise of reduced features. This has all of the contours and details minus the custom ovelays etc. A great card used by many Pro anglers who travel the entire US.
Third choice is the NEW Regional Navionics+ card. It is the same as the USA/Canada card but it is regional and has all of the lakes in the region preloaded, but again, only the capabilities of the regular Navionics + for one region...at a greatly reduced price of $150. ALL of these cards come with one year of free updates to keep your cards 100% current..every day if you want. After the year you keep your card as is, or you can continue the subscription for $99 for the next year of free data updates. You do NOT lose use of the card..it stays the same. NOTE: you MUST register your card at Navionics.com within 60 days of purchase to get the year of free updates. Mandatory
It is personal choice considering where you fish the most. If you are in one region...then the BEST card is the Platinum. If you travel to other Regions, then you may want to consider the Nav+ card (s). GL

"SonarChartTM Live allows boaters to create personal 0.5 m HD bathymetry maps in real time on the display of their Lowrance, Simrad and B&G chartplotter models. With SonarChart Live, boaters can engage their sonar to create new and increasingly detailed charts everywhere they go, raising awareness of shallow waters and frequently revealing previously uncharted bottom features, such as holes and drop-offs, that anglers seek out when targeting fish."
Yes! Yes! Yes! This is what Lowrance needed! Glad to see them working with Navionics.
I have a Navionics + sd with mico in my humminingbird 1198 I'm getting a HDS gen3 if I take the mico part out will it work in the lowrance?
Your Navionics card will indeed work in either your Lowrance or Humminbird unit. The only exception is in some more rare cases where the chip was included in a in-store bundle purchase in which then it may only work to its assigned plotter.
Lowrance only requires the micro portion of the SD card, HB I believe utilizes the micro inserted inside the SD Adapter. Both come standard with Navionics purchase.
Thank you JD. I bought it from navioics.

I'm excited to see what new Navionics features are on the next Lowrance Update but remember it is possible to change your mapping to adjust for your favorite lake's water level. Utilizing the Navionics Mobile App, you can adjust the water level and change your map view accordingly. Check it out!
Sonar Charts Live is incorrectly reading my TM transducer. I've never paired my tablet with that HDS. And it's a Gen 2 without wireless. I have the tablet paired with a Gen 3 at the console with a Total Scan Transducer. That is set to local for the Total Scan Transducer. I can't find any way to change the transducer that Sonar Charts Live uses. The Lowrance app correctly shows what is on the console HDS Gen 3. Help?

The GPS unit needs to be switched under network settings. Here are the button pushes:
PAGES>SETTINGS>NETWORK>DATA SOURCES>SONAR>GPS>ALL DATA>, then select Gen3. When I looked at my Gen3 it was set to AUTO. Let me know how that works.
I have been working with navionics tech support on this issue, and they have made some progress, but not resolved the issue. As stated above, originally purchased my first chip in August. Navionics has sent me 2 replacement chips, and after trying them or updating them and then trying them in My Gen -3's, none of them had photo overlay for Toledo Bend or Rayburn, but do have overlay for many other lakes when I randomely checked the immediate area of East Texas, N. La, SW Ark. At navionics request, I sent all 3 cards back to them for physical testing. Initial feed back was that they had tried the chips in a Lowrance HDS unit and they worked fine, and they sent me some screenshots to confirm my units settings, and pretty much telling me that they could do nothing more. I replied back and pointed out to them that the screen shots were not from a Gen-3 unit and they needed to try the chips in a gen-3. They immediately replied that they would look further and next day or two got back to me and said that they had tried all 3 chips in a Gen-3, none of them would show a photo overlay for Toledo Bend or Rayburn, and they would have to look at this further. After about a month without my Hotmaps Platinum chip, and no further update from Navionics, I ask for an update. They informed me last week that they had tested all 3 chips and one additional chip that they programed and tested themselves, and all had the same problem. They have sent the 4th chip to their Italy office for further investigation and were returning my chip back to me for now.
They actually sent me all 3 chips so now after 4 months, we have an official, documented, confirmed and still unresolved issue, and I have 3 defective chips instead of one.
I am guessing that if you have a Lowrance Gen-3 unit and one of these chips, and you want photo overlay around Toledo Bend or Rayburn, you do not have it either, if you have ever updated your chip.
Waiting on the fix, Tick tock tick toc.
Well i await an update also as i had the overlay when i bough my card in April and after this summer of doing an update, it disappeared.....i have used it in a Gen 2 unit and now have a Gen 3 with same issue, no overlay for Toldeo.....:thumbsdown1:
