1990 200hp shakes when idling and when in gear going slow

Upper mount was broke around the metal took alot of the movement out. But still have right much movement. M9re than i want. I guess i need to take apart the steering arm and replace everything there also. On a side note had the motor trimed up removing bolts to take off PH trimmed it back down and fuel poured out of the breather box i guess it is called. That cant be good.

Cross that bridge when you get to it. You're going to have more fun than you can stand doing the steering arm repair, might want to check the lower mounts while your there.

What size nut on bottom of steering are assembly?

:yesnod::thumb up2: Just did one a few months ago...believe it was a 1 1/2/not sure. Soak it down with knocker looser for a few days. Have the steering arm checked for wear as well.

Used a new mount,,,right? used mounts may look good but they get oil soaked/rubber softens/wears out/still have play. Tempting to get a used one off EBAY.

Yep!! Brand spanking new. You can tell it fixed alot of the problem. But i still have a ton of slop in the steering arm assembly!! I will post a video this evening. Let yall see what im looking at.

Got it soaking with some PB now. I measured it. It takes atleast a 1&13/16 socket. Kinda odd size for that big of nut. Im guessing 1&7/8 but was hoping someone knew for sure. Biggest socket i have at the house is a 32m. It is not even close to the right size.
32 m is like a 1&1/4 or very close i think

If I wasnt snowed and iced in, I could go out and see what size the one I used was,,,sorry.

I have been looking for the loctite primer to apply when everything goes back together. I can find it on ebay and amazon but locally it is no where to be found. Is this necessary? I have the PH gasket and i have the loctite 515. To get the primer i will have to order it.

I will bring a big 3/4 drive socket set home from work tomorrow. It goes from 1inch to 3inch. It should have the right size

There are mixed views and opinions on the primer. I would follow the manual to a T,,,,,do it right the first time and be done. Amazon has it and use Prime and have it in 2 days. When assembling a 2 stroke, cleanliness is your friend,,,squeaky clean.:thumb up2:

I would replace bushings and seals since that play is excessive and also the grease says seals bad.

12. Thread OMC lifting eye part No. 396748 or
equivalent to the crankshaft

Pretty sure that's part of my problem. Im taking everything to work tomorrow and to put them in the parts washer. The seals are supposed to be upside down correct? What is the reason for this?
Also i didnt check before i unscrewed the nut if i could tighten up the nut more or not but there was "space" between the lower mount brkt. and the keeper ring, in other words The beveled side of keeper was not completely seated in the mount bracket. This is supposed to be tight right?

Not quite sure what you are asking..As far as the seals go the lower one faces down and the upper faces up to keep water out of the assembly. Just like your lower unit's rear bearing carrier and the drive shaft bearing.

Was looking on ebay for the bushing part #320962 it had several white ones and a black one both said oem johnson evinrude. Just didnt know if 1 was better than the other. Im gonna get the white one since it has prolly been in there since 1990. pretty good track record.
seals thru me for a loop when i removed them. I just knew they were upside down.

The nut has the last 2 threads buggered up and i think it was not pulling the arm assembly tight. The arm was not threaded thru the nut completely.
Nut seals and bushing on the way. Hopefully be here before the weekend but i doubt it.

I have been going back together with everything. Painting and cleaning as i go. I installed steering arm with new bushing and seals. I have a question about the swivel bracket. Does it need to be completely full of grease? Also any preference in grease?
