Best way to hook a Sweet Beaver is with $.
Got the idea from the Bassmaster issue a few weeks back. Decided to find the stoutest hook I could find so i went with the Academy H20 Express brand which are made in Japan and these things are super sharp but more importantly they do not bend nor do the tips roll. I have literally flipped heavy brush for 2 days with a single hook and it still be sharp.
basically you just cust heat shrink tubing as shown and apply to the hook shank. I make a few of each being different distances from eye. That way i can accomodate a wide range of baits and their thickness. They really keep the plastic from sliding down and I have not noticed a problem on hookups. Almost all my fish are pegged good in the top lip with them. These are heavy gauage super line type hooks. I mostly use the 5/0 as shown in picture which is a beast of a hook. I will be making a huge batch in the next few weeks and I might sell a few for what I have in them. I am a big fan of this hook. If anyone has an Academy by them the 4/0 hooks are PT#FSH203003 and the 5/0 hooks are PT #FSH203004 and are less than $2.25 per 5 hooks if you want to make your own. just use the heat wrap that barely fits over the eyelet for best results.
