Pro V 150 vs a DI motor - Need Yamaha Advice

Hi all, I am interested in a used ZX190c with a Pro V 150.

The boat I have know is always having engine problems, so I want a reliable engine on a solid boat.

All of the boats I have looked at have had a DI engine except this Skeeter. I understand that the Pro V is a solid motor that is still be used today (the Vmax Carb I believe), but am not really sure what the pros and cons are.

I know that gas is more efficent in a DI, but how much?

What are the other major differences and what should I take into consideration.

I think I am willing to wait for another used boat to come along with a DI motor on it, but if it is not a really big deal I will give this ZX some serious thought.

Any advice will be GREATLY appreciated!

The V150 engines are well known for their reliability. They are not the most fuel efficient engines around though. I had an '04 TZX190 with V150 (pretty much the same boat & engine you are looking at, just newer year model). I was very satisfied with the boat. If ran at about 4500rpm, or less it did OK on fuel, and would run approx. 48-50mph at that rpm range. If gapped wide open, it sucked fuel pretty bad. Yamaha claims the 150 DFI engine gets approx. 30% better fuel consumption. But, most people say that is only true in the middle rpm range (not nearly as much difference at WOT). If you really make a lot of long runs, it may be worth waiting on a good deal on a DFI engine. But, if you are really looking for all out reliability, the V150 should be a good choice. Of course there are exceptions. Everyone makes a lemon, and it is a used engine. I would have it thoroughly checked out by a good mechanic before buying anything. 99% of the time I am making runs less that 15 minutes, and most lakes have a speed limit that would keep me under 55. The trails I fish in do not fish really large bodies of water.

Other than than that I might pull a tube a little or fish a larger body of water on vacations.

The Pre-98 PRO-V is a great carbed motor. It also is stronger than the 98 (V-max). 1998 is when they started the HP restrictions and emmissions. Both are very reliable. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

I just put a deposit on my First Skeeter!! A ZX190C, they say top end is just over 70 on this boat! Nice step up from a 16 ft alumiumn with a 60 on it!

I think your going to be happy with that boat.I had a 18 ft with a pro v and ran the hell out of it . Great motor and the only problem i had was if i let it set up for too long the carbs would have to be cleaned, so i solved that problem, i never let it set for more than 3 weeks at a time!!!
