I have a Series 2. when starting the motor I turn the key and wait for the beep noise then I crank the motor. Sometimes it beeps again once the motor is started. Is this a warning or something I should be worried about?

I'm not familiar with a "beep" pre or post ignition. I just turn mine over and it fires. No beep involved. I did not realize the Series2 does that.
I turn my key for a few seconds to allow the vst to pressurize and then crank it... i don't hear a beep before or after... pull the kill switch and try to crank and it'll beep though.
In every Yamaha I've been with, including my own, they don't beep.... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif
Could it just be the guages on my boat? It is a 294 Evo with Actia digital guages.
No beeping on my motor.

225 S II, mine beeps.I wait until the beep before starting but do not know if that is necessary.
Only dual engine installations do a self test beep at key on--single engine does not. If it's 05 or newer, I beleive water in fuel will beep at start-up in neutral...
