So I went through B.R. yesterday.....
to my wife's families in Baker and Zachary. WOW!! They got HAMMERED! We brought groceries (stores open with empty shelves) and some gas (long lines), plus helped with the clean up. Not far from my SIL's house in Zachary, a tree fell on a car and crushed it. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/eek.gif Luckily no one was hurt. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif They say they heard 2 tornadoes during the storm, so the damage could have been ALOT worse. It is slowly coming back around.
One observation, though. The thing that makes that part of the state so beautiful and desirable to live is also what did the most damage. If it weren't for the trees knocking down power lines and hitting cars and houses, the damage would have been about 75% less. I guess no matter where you live, you have to take a chance with something.

I guess it is the price we have to pay for living in Sportsman's Paradise http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif
Did your SIL have any damage?

You're right on that point! As far as damage, one SIL (in Baker) lost a 20+ year old privacy fence while another (in Zachary) just lost power and some tree limbs. The one in Zachary has lost all but one of her BIG trees in previous storms.

I just made a trip to White Castle, and man that strip of Hwy 1 got hammered too.
Another note, dead fish floating from the Ramah/Mariqouin exit to the Henderson levee. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif
Boat ramp at the Butte LaRose exit was blocked and a game warden was sitting there. I didn't notice the sulphur smell like it was after Katrina, but looked pretty fonkey.

That's why there were no boats there. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif

You were only about 7 miles from my house. We got it pretty good with the trees and all but nothing to the houses and no-one was hurt thank God. We're still without electricity and I popped into the library to check on everyone. Hope all is well.
Hopefully we'll get some electricity in a few days. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sweating.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/crying.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
