Your OMC motor is nothing like the Merc design under the powerhead.
Poor idle can be any number of things or combinations thereof. Best to do a decarbon and a compression check, then have a trained professional do the serious troubleshooting for you.
Re: 1999 Ficht 225 (SEAHORSE)
I had a very similiar problem and it turned out to be my ECU. My motor would start and purr like a kitten but once it hit 3500-4500 rpm it would have a sever miss.
At first I had a light miss in the 4500 range that only happened 1 out of 5 trips. A few months latter the light miss all of a sudden turned into a sever miss at 35-4500. Funny thing was my motor would start easy, idle easy and run WOT if you could get past the miss at 4500.
My mechanic told me my computer/ECU was slowly breaking down and the ECU would eventually crap out. Hopefully your problem is not an ECU because they are not cheap to replace. My advise would be take your motor to a well trained certified Evinrude mechanic that is familiar with the Ficht motors.
