marine plywood anti-rot treatments
Ive been googling away learning about plywood for my boat repairs. plan on buying marine grade plywood to fix transom, deck, stingers. According to what Ive read the marine ply uses only a specific type of wood in it and should have no knots and very small voids in the layers as well as waterproof glue. It does not however have any presevitives or anti-rot fungal type aditives. Ive also read that some boat manufacturers ad their own antifungal treatments to the wood (Treated in accordance with AWPA Standard C9 with < CCA, ACQ, ACZA or ACA> to 0.40 pcf retention. Kiln dry after treating (KDAT) to 18% or less) but cant find anything available to the public. Anybody heard of some sort of treatment that I could use to prevent rot? Also have learned it is very important to make sure wood is super dry before glassing (guess I'm storing it in the house, wife should love that). Right now my only plan to prevent rot is to not use any screws in anything except the jackplate screws and glass all sides of the wood.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif

ROTDOCTOR CPES-clear penetrating epoxy sealant
Look it up on line
I used this product to treat all of the new wood that I put in my rebuild. That was in 2004.

from what I read at their website the rot doctor is for repairing rotted wood and as a sealer and moisture displacer before you glass. A deep penatrating kind of resin. Not really anti-fungal more of a sealer, though it sounds like it would help seal out the water better than without.

You might be looking a little to deep into this project http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif My original transom lasted 20 or so years...just Marine ply and resin..If it last 15 more built the same way i think by then it will be time to scrap her http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif

LOL
Jerry said it right....Only way to keep rot out is to keep water out.......resin everything, glass what you can, and any time you add something , silicone it.

i have some time to kill waiting on supplies from uscomposites.com. maybe i should lay off the google searches. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif too much info. just trying to learn as much as i can before i start glassing. I'll aim for perfection and probably end up between good and ok. I thank all of you ahead of time for answering all my goofy thoughts and questions... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/bows.gif
