javelin 379 setup

I am currently running a 93 javelin 379 with 150 fastrike with new monty racing powerhead, about 185 hp with a 24p raker at 3 3/8" below pad turning 5600. The water pressure is 25 psi at wot, chines from 61-63 and then clears up and tops out about 68 or 69 depending on water. I am also running a 5 1/2" jackplate. The main issue I have is that I have to trim the motor all the way up to really make the boat run well, but then the steering torque is extremely excessive. I am curious if there is something I am missing in my setup. The current prop I have is in very rough shape and have been contemplating a new prop or prop change and I am curious what would be a good option to maintain holeshot and top speed, but help out with the torque steer other than hydraulic steering. Sorry to be long winded but trying to give all the info I can to help everyone out. I also have a set of 2" spacers which I purchased but haven't installed yet and not sure if these would help or not.

Simple answers to all...

Send your prop to someone that really knows rakers, they can make it run much better. Then run it again, what causes steering torque is the prop surfacing and slipping. Your choices are: lower the motor a bit, which will free up the steering, but increase the chine walk, or install a $20 torque tab which will cure the stiff steering.

If you have cable steering, doubtful you have the cable room to add the spacers, if you do it won't hurt, but check before you go to the trouble.

I spoke with Mark Croxton last night and he said that the condition of the prop I have was probably causing 90% of my problem. I am going to send it to him next week after our weekend tournament and let him repair it for me. He seems to think this will cure most of my problem. I don't think my cables will reach which is why I haven't installed the spacers so far. I will see how this prop repair works out and go from there.

I had a Javelin 387A & a 389B both with 150 Johnson Fast Strike engines, prop worked helped the steering torque problems but the real helper was a welded on torque tab on the skeg. If I had to do it all over again I would invest in a hydraulic sterring system.

I have already considered this, if the prop mods don't help out I will probably just add the hydraulic steering but didn't want to if I didn't have to. $850 is a lot of tackle, rods, and reels.
