I have a 1998 Ficht 150 model number J150ILECR. The tach started jumping around even when the RPM/throttle remains constant. I assumed it was a bad tach because I could tap on the tach and it seemed the problem would go away for a short time. The tach has been replaced, but the problem still exists. I have the service manual and it appears that the tach signal comes from the ECU on the Ficht engines. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
What is your voltage gauge reading?
Thanks for the reply. I don't have a voltage guage mounted on the dash, but I did pull a reading from the battery with a hand-held meter. The battery voltage was about 12.9 volts, if I remember correctly. This was without the motor running.
I want to make sure I'm going down the right path. A lot of posts that I have read on here give procedures for checking the charging system to correct this problem (stator, regulator/rectifier). From what I can decipher from the service manual wiring diagrams, it appears that this motor provides a tach signal from the ECU. Wouldn't this rule out any of the charging circuit?
