1985 Evinrude 70 hp "HELP"
I have a friend that just purchased this boat and needs some help. It is a 1985, Evinrude 70 hp motor. It starts and idle good, but when I try to accelerate from a fast trolling speed to cruising speed the motor starves for fuel and dies.
I have found that if I activate the choke while throwing the throttle forward it jumps right out of the hole and away we go.
The motor is oil injected, not mixed. It is on a 16 foot aluminum Fisher boat with 2 people in the boat.
Fuel is new, spark plugs new. Carburetor bowls were drained and checked for water.
Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks

Welcome aboard.
Is there a fuel filter installed on this somewhere? On some motors, there is a filter screen, that I believe is attached to the side of the carb by one screw (through the center). I'm not sure if yours is set up this way or not. Look for fuel line restrictions or kinks in the fuel line.
I'm not sure, but would a bad fuel bulb cause this??

Welcome to the BBC.
Has the motor set any amount of time?
Sounds like the main jets are plugged, they are behind the carb bowl drain screws.

sounds like carbs need a little work, cleaned, rebuilt.
