    1997 Viper Cobra Purchase

Hey guys trying to figure out which model Cobra this is... I know its a 1997 but dont know if its a 1710, 188 or 201? Also it has a sticker on the back that says AME 5000 resin, what is this? Are these good boats? Quailty builds? How are the Transoms on these boats, do they usually have issues or very tough and dependable? Here are a couple pictures of it. Im about to pull the trigger if everything checks out good. It will be my first really bass boat..

Load the pictures to something like photobucket then generate the img url and paste it in the comment box here. It will load the picture in the highest quality that way.

As these boats go, they are excellent boats, great in rough water and well made. I absolutely love my 188. My dad has a 201 that has also been awesome. I had a good friend with a 190 that he loved. All of these boats have been solid and very functional. The transoms on these don't really have many issues. The issues they do have are caused by improper sealing on holes for motor bolts and splash well drain tubes.

Someone with more knowledge about resins can help you with the AME 5000 tag.

The model numbers are the size in feet and inches, i.e. a 1710 is 17'10". A 1710 later became a 180 and a188 later became a 190. The 201, I believe was always a 201. As stated above, great boats. Built well and handle rough water very well.

Looks like a 1710 to me, based on the fact that it has a 150 on it. Looks like it's in pretty good shape.

Is here anywhere on the boat that would say 188 or 1710?

Possibly on the coast guard plate. At the very least, it'll have the horsepower rating. Max rating for a 1710 would be 175 I believe. If the max rating is 200, it'll be a 188 I think. The plate on mine is on the port rod locker, or just below the passenger console.

I think it's a 188. Lots of 188's with 150's and 175's on them. Might ask a guy for the measurement. That'll tell you everything.

6 occupants is what my 188 says.

Max occupancy on the 1710 is 5. (assuming it's the same as the 180)

Cool so then this one should be a 188D then since it's a 1997. Boat has a jack plate, minnkota edge, lowrance hook 7, lowrance hds 9 older one I belive, stainless prop, only the passenger seat has a tear that was fixed, carets pretty good, decks seemed really solid, pretty sure everything works. Tap on transom with my knuckles everything sounded the same solid not hollow thid. 7500 bucks be reasonable for this boat with a carbed fast strike 150? Enine wasn't missing anything and vro was still connected.
