    Registration decal for outboard

I live in south carolina so I'm not sure about other state regulations. I'm wondering where you guys put your outboard registration sticker at on your motor. I hate the fact that I have to put this on my sexy new merc. I also cannot stand these huge ugly big green boat registration stickers. The green completely clashes with my boat and how I want it to look. I know this sounds crazy but I'm annoyed with hiw bad the green will stick out on my black boat.

    Tiger,

Just pulled my sticker off a couple of weeks ago (moved back to Indiana) and I believe it was on the right side of the motor under the Mercury graphics. I thought the DNR gave instructions on where it should be placed.

    Transom,

Yup, instead of trailer registration, they want the motor registered and titled.

In Oklahoma, we register the boat and the motor but not the trailer. The boat tag goes next to the numbers on the hull and the motor tag is a strip about 1 ½" wide and 5 or 6 inches long, goes on the lower port side corner....different color every year.

They do tell us. I just don't want to put it where they want me to. But I found a nice small area where it looks good.

Yes, Oklahoma requires a registration decal on the boat and outboard motor. You pay tag, title and tax on both the boat and outboard. You can register your trailer voluntarily. Inboard/outboards are not required to be registered. Personally, I don't put my motor decal on. I keep it in the glove box.

That would be a nightmare for me since my motor is a discombobulated jumble of various size and year parts. I have a 140 powerhead on a 90 midsection, jet lower, 65 hp hood, and no tags or numbers on any of them.

Wow, here in Indiana the trailer and boat. No motor as of now anyway. Florida is or was the same, but I haven’t registered a boat there in 20 years. But Iam about to find out. I’ll be an official snowbird in a year.

I moved to Tennesee from Illinois 5 years ago. In Illinois I had a title and registration on the boat from the Dept of Conservation.
The trailer was titled and had plates issued like any other vehicle by Secretary of State.

I bought a new boat in Tennessee 3 years ago and still have the original Manufacturers Statement of Origin on the boat, motor and trailer. Tennessee will title the trailer and issue a license plate if you request it but it's not required. The boat has a registration issued by TWRA. Nothing is required on the motor.

Here in Alabama we just register the hull and that’s all. You answered a question I’ve had before because I thought those greens stickers on the motor had something to do with emissions. Sucks you have to put that on the nice shiny motor.
