    198 P coin box

Called Ranger aluminum parts dept. this morning about the coin box fitting my RT188 and ordering one. I was told that it is not an option for that boat and would not fit. The price for one is $373.57. Until I find the exact measurements I'm not convinced that I could not make it work. But anyway thought I would pass this info along to those that were interested in doing the same.

Man those guys are proud of their stuff. I wanted a bike seat and it was $167 bucks......guess I'll keep the $24 BPS one.

$373 and you have to make it work? That is a no-brainer. Build it yourself for a whole lot less or offer BTO half of that to build one that will fit.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is so great about the coin box ---- anybody got a picture??

And like somebody said, if I just had to have something like it, I would call BTO and get him to make me one when he had time. The work I have seen that he does has been good quality.

I've seen guys make some for those glass boats in the past. Just needs to be sturdy enough to use as a step to back deck. Trying to come up with something for my RT188. Miss having the glove box in my old boat to put my wallet, keys and phone. Been lookin at something maybe even for under the console to the right of my leg for a little storage for these items.

It is nice though. It has a fiberglass lid that matches the consoles. I don't see any reason it could not be made to fit. They didn't change the beam measurement so the seat spacing should be pretty much the same.

Go by an electrical supply house and look at some of the weathertight junction boxes. They are very strong, come in a lot of sizes and gasketed and waterproof and cost maybe $50-60. I have one a buddy that owns an electrical company gave me that I use as a step. Add some tread to the top and you would have a good box.

The Basscat store has a carpeted step box that looks pretty decent and is the right size to fit with the center seat removed, it's pretty reasonable at $135, I don't know how the carpet color matches up to the Ranger tho. I pulled my center seat as the wife hated stepping up that high and I thought of adding one of these but she's happy with the height as is so I might get a front deck step instead and add a hinge to the top for throwing the car keys, sun block, and phone in.

I am still going to add a hinge to my front deck step also. Using under seat storage right now. Then always forget which side I out the stuff on.

I hinged the step going to the front deck on my Triton 18TX. It's where I store my bumpers and ropes that I use when docking the boat.

Can a 230 lb guy step on one of those small electrical boxes as a step without a crushing result LOL?

Yes. They are very very strong. There is a new style with about four little wings that close on it and waterproof it and I would say that it would probably hold two of you. I would not bet on the old sheet metal ones but the larger hard bakerlite (hard plastic) ones are very strong. Go look at one.

My wife just told me that it cost to much. It should fit. the only difference i see is the seat does not tilt up. I thought i saw were the gas tank is under the seats.

The tank is under the seats. I still want one. I need a place for my keys and wallet. I use the gap behind the seat now. I see no reason for it not to fit.
