Question new axle on trailer something don't look right

I had a new axle installed by a spring shop, now my tires look like there are toed in at the top when trailering, I have towed behind a 100 boats and never have seen the tires like they are on mine, is there a way to correct this and should I call the shop that installed it and find out why it is like this???

Not sue whats going on but I just installed 2 axles on my trailer and they are bowed in the center. An obvious bow. I had to make sure that I had them the correct side up. If it was upside down, I would guess the tires would be toed in at their tops. If you look at my post I made in this section "My trailer build etc....." , you should be able to see the bow in one of the pics.

I'd bring it back to the shop that installed it.

I’m guessing leaf spring axle not torsion? Most leaf spring axles are deliberately humped in the center and it should be up, if it’s flipped it could cause the toe in.

Took it to the shop that installed it and manager ask me what you want me to do, I said make it right...lol well there is no adjustment on it and if I order another axle it is probably gonna be the same. So he had his top guy come out and he looked it over and so on and then took some measurements and then asked if I could take the boat off the trailer so he could measure it without the boat. So I dropped it in a pond fairly close by and my bud watched it while I brought the trailer back and he did more measurements. And said he is going to put a crown on the axle and reinforce it with a piece of steel or something to that affect to correct the situation. So I say no charge right we will have to get back to you on that...Well that is not gonna fly it's no charge or a new axle and see if that is any better so thur they will try to correct it .Will keep everyone posted

That angle would be camber the top is leaned in. Toe in is the front of the tires closer than the back. Yes have them repair it for free or have them provide a different axle.

You beat me to it. I was going to say that it was a camber problem instead of the toe being out.

Don't let them put a "bend" in the axle and reinforce it. Make them re-order the correct axle. Is it the same lb rating axle that was under it to start with? The trailer shop I sell parts for orders 1000's of axles yearly. We've never had this problem. Did the shop weld the spring pads on the axle or did it come with them already welded? They may have ordered the axle with positive camber and welded plates on wrong side of axle. Did they give you the old axle back? Check it to see if it has any camber built into it.

I have also followed a lot of trailers, and observed that many torsion bar trailers tires go through a lot of camber changes while moving.

Different ball game. The shop should have gauges to check wheel inclination and toe out. If they don't, go somewhere that does.

Either the axle is too light or it’s upside down.

It’s a 3500 lb axle my boat probably weighs in at about 2000 to 2200 lbs I figure , so sure the weight is enough to carry it

Though you are likely under 3500 on the axle still, you are probably underestimating your weight a good bit. The hull alone weighs 1200lbs. 400 for the outboard, 200 for batteries, 600 for the trailer. Gear, TM, spare tire, fuel etc. adds up pretty fast.

Twitch, bite the bullet and take it to a Ranger dealer, a spring shop IMO is not the right place for boat axles. It might cost more initially but you will get the correct product. The fix he is proposing sounds like a MacGyver attempt to fix. I think you know how this is going to end up. Best of luck.
