    Pellet grills and rain

Anybody use their pellet grill in the rain? We are having the in-laws over for a cookout and rain is in the forecast. The rain doesn’t look like it’s going to a hard rain but rain nonetheless.

My son says he’s used his Rec-Tec Bull in the rain on occasion. It’s not ideal, but he told me it works a little harder to keep up to temp. Otherwise, keep it closed and let it cook. A hard, driving rain might make it difficult like with any other grill.

Yes...if you have garage keep the hopper portion inside or if no garage put garbage bag or cover around hopper. Don't let the bag/cover touch the grill of course.

I have the Pitt Boss cover, I had thought about covering the hopper with it, that’s my only real worry is the possibility of pellets getting wet and the electronics. If I keep it covered I should be good.

be careful not to cover your fan if your hopper has one similar to my Yoder.

I've used my RecTec in the rain before. I called RecTec just to make sure the electronics would be fine and they said it won't hurt it, but if for some reason it did, they would send me a new controller. They did recommend I put the vent covers on my Stampede to keep the rain out. I did have a little rain get in the grill, but it didn't really hurt anything.

I’ve used mine in the rain. Between the lid edges and the heat generated in the hopper should keep pellets fine. But I’ve never used in a driving rain

Used my RecTec in the rain several times with no problems. The hopper is water proof. Just fill up the hopper before it starts raining.
