    Question Phoenix Cover modification

Question for you guys who have had your boats for a while now - I am taking my cover in to an upholstery shop to make a bump out for the Ultrex/360. Are there any areas that you would recommend reinforcing or adding felt to while I have it at the shop?

On mine, the starboard bow cleat gets the wear. I lay a washrag over it. The ultrex keeps the cover up off the port bow cleat

I cut a pool noodle to go over the front cleats and console graph. I wish Jeff was still here to find out who did his cover. I would send them mine to do the same thing

They would need the boat to do it.

Maybe so. I thought they might have the measurements. There's a shop here but I haven't seen any of their work

I asked Jeff the same thing. I'm taking mine into a custom car/truck shop that does custom covers and convertible repairs. They said they needed my boat also to make the fit right.

Same thing the shop here said. Oh well. I need to get some of the backed material first and atleast get it done for the ultrex.

Any shop should be able to do it, I got backer and material from Tim at phoenix. My shop cant do it without your boat.

Thanks Jeff. I figure they can do it but it's hard to find somebody that will do that little extra to make it better like the people that did yours. Seems around here it's just the opposite. That's why I'm a little leery of getting it done.

Yes I got very lucky and found a true craftsman. Like I said before I dropped it off hoping the work would be ok and was very surprised at all the extra stuff he did on his own.

I have used 3 other guys in my area for various work over the years and none of them would do a cover as it needs more room on a table etc. One of them sent me to this guy luckily.....

I could take my boat to him in the off season and you guys send in your covers if we need to but Im sure we dont all have the same needs? I have a 52 inch ultrex and 360 and 2 12" helix on the dash.

Id suggest looking for a tarp maker or someone who works on semi truck covers in your area. I had one of them do a custom race car cover for me years ago and it was fantastic work in the state of washington.

I would look for auto upholstery or awning shops - they will have equipment necessary to do this. I just did a quick search and there are a bunch around you. Here is a bigger shop - lots of smaller ones closer that you may know of.

Maybe a motorhome place. A motorhome store should know of a shop that makes covers for the motorhomes.

Picked up the cover today. We decided instead of making a bump out for the trolling motor to split the seam near the edge by the strap and sew in additional material there. Also made a pocket for the graph similar to Jeff's. All stress areas were reinforced. Once I put some towing miles on I'll update with a report but it looked good on the ride home.

Sounds interesting, post pics when you get a chance.

Id assume a bump out would be the way to go since the cover would fit perfectly if we didnt add objects that held it up too high out of place. Plus you can add backer over the pressure points like prop, 360 and over the whole motor basically.
