Recommendations for motor on 2018 Z522D.............

Well, I ran into a snag with my new boat order. The boat is done!! However, I got caught up in the Yamaha mess....... Currently my dealer is searching and calling in "chips" to find a 25" shaft 250 SHO, but I need to be prepared for the worse.

With local service for Verado & Suzuki, I'm guessing these would be my best choice if my dealer can't get his hands on a SHO. I want a 4 stroke for sure, otherwise I would consider an E-Tec.

Looking for Pros & Cons, advice....prayers...lol. Very disappointed if I can't get my SHO.

    I appreciate any input.

Don’t think you can go wrong with either. Merc would definitely have the better support infrastructure though. You don’t see too many slShzukindealers here but they are good motors.

Suzuki is certainly the flavor of the day on bbc, and they are definitely good motors. If it were my money I would probably sick with the merc.

For a 150. Even if they do release the 250 there's no way I'd buy a boat with one on it till it's several years old.

    Howdy,

Full disclosure, I love Suzuki and have had them on two different boats. They are fantastic. I also have a 522D with a Verado Pro 300. I also had a Verado on a 521. That said, if I was buying a 522D today, I’d get the Verado again.

This is one of those “you can’t go wrong either way” choices. Personally, the dealer network, power steering, quietness and the performance of the Verado win out for me.

    Take Care,

My recommendation is the Verado. My brother-in-law has one and it’s been an absolutely awesome engine. Another thing you may want to consider is the resale value, I would think Mercury would have the advantage.

I have a 522D with a 300 Verado Pro. Perfect motor for this boat..... very smooth, quiet, and lots of power. The 522D is a big boat and not sure if you would be happy with anything less than a 300. Ive only owned it for 1 1/2 years but I really like this motor alot.

With the Z522D and Merc Verado 300 pro - Is anyone running a higher pitch bravo? I have the same set up with 21P. Looking at going up to a 23P or 24P Bravo 4. Mine is only getting mid 50's. Any info on setups would be appreciated.
