    Bass Pro Shop bought by Martha Stewart

    I think Martha Stewart bought Bass Pro Shops, man the fishing selection has a lot to be desired. Now if you need pillows, lamps, furniture, etc., there loaded. Sure wish Tackle Warehouse would get a credit card, I have several gift cards and they have nothing I want!

    Last time I went to bass pro I was very disappointed, most of the fishing stuff was sold out or low, most reels and rods were gone. Sucks to dive 2 hours to be disappointed.

    I'm less than 2 miles to my local Bass Pro. Disappointed nearly every time I go in. Did find a good deal on a jacket last time I was in the store, no "Bass Pro Shops" on the jacket.

    Our Bass pro is terrible. But Dicks tackle selection has actually gotten bigger and better.

    in my opinion you are going to see more and more of this.they are catering more to women and home furnishings.i still say fishing supplies and hunting supplies just don't sell like they did back 25 to 30 years ago.for the average working class it just costs too much money

    The one up this way has a pretty good selection. Cabela's too. Both are within an hour of me. That is not really a good thing...

    On bass tackle, the Harrisburg store is great compared to Baltimore. Balt caters to Chesapeake Bay and ocean anglers plus freshwater. Harrisburg is almost all freshwater. Balt has also laid off people in the fishing department. I believe Johnny Morris was trying to increase his bottom line so he could go to Wall Street to borrow the money to buy Cabelas.

    The BassPro in Springfield MO has plenty of fishing stuff, as you would expect being it is their HQ. Lots of that "Martha Stewart" type stuff also, but I beeline right to the fishing stuff paying no attention to the fluffy pillows and such.

    The Cabela's near me has very little in stock but the worse thing is the absolute lack of knowledge of the products by the workers. I asked for a mount for a helix 10 and they had no clue what would work.

    Clothes= big profit margin.
    Fishing & Hunting gear = Low profit.

    make it a destination, the women come along and spend as much on clothes as the guys does on tackle.

    Don't forget the Vacation hawks at the bottom of the stairs.

    The Baltimore one is horrible, bad location/parking with the casino close by, low stock on bass items and clueless workers. I just stopped bothering to go, only buy from Bass Pro when someone gives me gift cards for xmas or bday presents.

    For the folks that keep going back, just to be disappointed, why do you go back? I don't mean to be a smart a$$, but if the place doesn't change, why bother? Have to admit that when I worked there, we had a terrible selection of fishing gear, loads of stuff that didn't sell, and it was really tough to get them to send us the stuff that would sell. For instance, the fly shop had tons of trout stuff, but since we don't have trout here, it wouldn't move. And when we finally started getting some bass and saltwater stuff in, they took it out of the shop, and sent more trout stuff.
    I have been in the local store twice in three years, there are still the same things on the racks that I put up when we opened the store. And with an Academy across the interstate, it cut further into their business. Have a buddy that still works there tell me that if it weren't for weapons and ammo, they would close the store.
    And they have a much larger area set up for apparel than fishing and hunting combined. But if that is what makes money, then it would be a smart move.
