Lift Assist for Minn Kota MAXXUM Trolling Motor

I posted some information on this previously but have recently created a PDF giving parts list and complete installation instructions. I have not figured out how to post an attachment to the forum, but if you PM your email address, I will be happy to send you the PDF. Total installed cost of this project is under $30 if you have a 5/16-18 tap and correct tap drill size. If not you can buy the tap and drill in kit form at Lowes for about $8.00.

    Got the PDF, Thanks Bill!

    Couple questions:
Are the threads on the ball studs 1/2" long? Can they be longer?
You state drill the tap holes 3/4" deep... is the cast area solid that entire 3/4", or are you tapping a thinner chunk of casting in that area?

With 4 washers on the stud, to extend the stud away from the mount, is there concern there isn't much thread going into the casting?

the Thread length is 1/2 inch and could be longer if you can find them.
The casting is much deeper than the 3/4 I used that dimension to give some clearance for the tapered threads on the tap.
Your point about the amount of thread engagement with the washers is a good one. I have not had a problem but would not use more washers than absolutely necessary to get clearance for the struts.
