I see that your running a Yamaha does your prop have PVS plugs. If it does try changing them. You can really change your holeshot performance by playing around with the plugs.

Re: Lets See Some True Accurate Numbers (trroscoe)

Yeah I have all 3 plugs out. I am gonna get 2 or 3 props and try them as I do fish a heavier tackle load than most guys ...lol...not me but the tackle. I am gonna get a custom prop made for it after I get it closer to what I want from it. I had a 2005 Triton with a 150 that was pushing 70 with a stock motor and custom prop !!

Re: Lets See Some True Accurate Numbers (bassnva123)

Have you tried using different size plugs. On my Trophy plus 4 blade i have two medium and two large hole plugs. I am not sure on the yamaha but on a Mercury you want it to spin up to around 3000 rpm when you advance the throttle from idle to Max. You adjust your PVS plug size to make this happen. If you have plugs that have too small an opening your motor will bog. If your plugs have too big of an opening it will feel like a clutch slipping on a car. Either way your holeshot will suck. It takes some adjusting and playing with it to get it just right.

Re: Lets See Some True Accurate Numbers (trroscoe)

Yeah I have set up hundreds of boats.Just not many Sprints, Not trying to be a smarta$$ !! This prop has 3 holes with plugs and the plugs are completely out and only hits about 2200 on start, I am gonna drill out holes a little, then do some adjustments on the barrel, then a few tweeks on the blades and see what I can do to it..may have to start back from scratch. Yeah its a merc. prop and not a yamaha.

I don't remember what size prop is on it, but my mechanic told me last fall that it was way too small.

    5800RPM - 56-58mph

My mechanic ran it to about 6100RPM and hit around 60-62MPH.

I generally run around 4800RPM and cruise between 51-53MPH GPS.

Re: Lets See Some True Accurate Numbers (jlsch1)

Ok I finally did some tinkering with my jackplate. Got 67 by GPS with a Big Ear 26P chopper about 2 inches below the pad on my 2000 207 Limited DC with a 225 Mariner Super Mag. I had to close off the top 5 water inlet holes on both sides of the lower unit with set screws to maintain good water pressure but it works well. I have about 16-18PSI at WOT. Still plan on getting the prop worked to increase the cup and get more bow lift as we all know these heavy sprint boats need all the lift they can get.

Finally got a chance to run my other prop today. Got 66 mph at 5800 rpm. Hole shot was a little sluggish, but not too bad. I think I may keep it.

Re: Lets See Some True Accurate Numbers (bluewingjb)

Well due to hitting rocks around the ramp loading my boat last week I am finally getting the Big Ear Chopper worked, though this is not how I had planned on it. Have a real good prop guy here in the Chattanooga area working it for me.. He said he can fix the blow out issue on hole shot and also give me more lift. Once I get that done I should be able to hit past 70.. I did hit 69.7 late last year. I am going back up a little on the plate since I plugged the top 5 water inlet holes on the lower unit. Doing that bumped my H2O pressure from 14 to almost 20. I figure with the prop worked and going up a little on the plate I should be able to get up around 73 or so.. Will let you all know. I do have to say the Big Ear Chopper works great on this boat though. I only have blow out issues on hole shot and no other time. I can turn on a dime and not blow out..

Re: Lets See Some True Accurate Numbers (bluewingjb)

i have a 2000 221 DC that was running a 225 Yamaha 25m and a 27m most of the time. About the best i ever got it to run was 73. it now has a 2004 Yamaha 300 hpdi and i ran a 29T1 at 80.8, Now it (the boat) is for sale. I ran a lot of friends props and the best w/ a 225 was about 73. i would think the 207 is close to the 221.

Ok so I blew my Mariner 225 Super Mag, bad bent a rod wasted a sleeve and took out the crank. I got a local outboard GENIUS to rebuild it for me and it looks as if what he did coupled with have my injectors service, 2 were flooding out all the time, and I will be in the mid 70s!! I will let you all know.. So far I am past the 2 hour break in 4000rpm limit and 15 minutes into the next 8 hours which has a 5000rpm limit. As of now I can hit 58.5 at 5000 and the engine is rated to turn 6600!!

2000 207 Tournament Pro with 2014 Honda 225, Atlas Hydraulic jackplate and a 24 Fury. Just me, 1/2 tank of gas and ideal conditions ~70 MPH, regular tournament load 68 MPH but really average out to ~65 MPH with full tanks/livewells.
