I have to admit, I've been a longtime fan of the Ci4 but this new CU70 is an awesome little reel. I prefer the new drag system, and braking of the CU70 vs. the Ci4. That said, either is a really good reel, but the more I fish the 70 the more I like it. Size, castabilty, and rock steady frame are winning me over, more and more. Dan
This is good to hear, I was trying to decide if I should get the 70 or the CI4 also. I was leaning toward the 70, and this just finalized my decision.
What are you gonna use it for ? I feel the 70 is good for everything except medium to large crankbaits. It doesn't feel quite as fluid under a heavy cranking load as the I series does.

I have both and you cant go wrong with either, what are you going to be using the reel for? If its going to be a all around reel i would go for the CI4 because it holds more line and if you are just pitchin and flippin or dont need to do any distant casting with pretty big line then I would choose the 70.

I have a scorpion 70 as my crankin reel. I can chunk a 6xd and still have enough line I feel comfortable. Yes there's reels that hold more line but as far as palming and feel of the reel I personally think it holds plenty of line.
It's going to be an all around reel. I've played with both in the store but haven't seen either on the water. Im going to get 4 reels, just don't know if I want 4 of one or 2 of each or what not. Does the 70 hold enough 17 lb line for skipping a jig? Also, does the core 100mg7 handle fit on the 70 reel? I don't care for the shorter handle or the small knobs, I know that much.
I've had each one and I think the Curado 70 is the better reel over all. I didn't like the Chronarch's and I sold 'em. They seemed to be very gritty and had poor performance. Not to mention they're incredibly hard to fine tune and dial in with a specific lure's weight. And yes, the Curado 70 will hold enough 17# line for skipping jigs.
I have upgraded all my Ci4's and I's (which I really did like) to 70's and MGL's and I have to say that for the money the 70 is awesome. I have a 70XG that I put 65 lb braid on my frog rod and have really enjoyed frogging with it. The smaller profile is so easy to palm when working a frog that I got a few more of the 70HG. One for jerkbaits / topwaters, another for squarebills and another for swim jigs, spinnerbaits, underspins, that sorta thing with 15 lb fluoro. Really liking the 70's so far, they are great!

I use 14 lbs. Sunline Sniper (not 15) which has a small diameter to begin with. I had similar concerns as well and while I can't say exactly how many yards I'm fitting on the spool, I am casting spinnerbaits and swim jigs to targets no more than 30 yards out. Not bombing them off points and slow rolling. The jerkbaits / topwaters I'm using 10 lb sniper and 30 lb braid and haven't had an issue bombing them out there.

And the ci4 doesn't have anything on the 70 as far as performance. The lure jumps off the 70 with ease and it palms so nice

Does the 70 have sufficient capacity to hold 14-16lb line for football jig fishing?
I wish the Curado I used the same brakes as the 70!
I ordered the 70 from The Tackle Trap, great price, if you haven't ordered one yet.
