    Exclamation 3 Liter Torq Specifications "Cheat Sheet"

    This list will be updated as torque items are requested (below).

    NOTE: This list is provided as a QUICK REFERENCE. A Factory Service Manual is your BEST guide for proper torque specifications.

    Air Compressor Mounting Bolts: 20 lbs/ft
    Air Compressor Head Bolts: 20 lbs/ft
    Air Compressor Pulley Screws (BLACK/STEEL Pulley): 170 lbs/in
    (INCH!!)
    Air Compressor Pulley Screws (BLUE aluminum/billet Pulley): 190 lbs/in
    (INCH!)
    Air Handler (Intake Plenum) Mounting Screws: 120 lbs/in
    Alternator (V-Belt Driven for EFI) Mounting or Adjuster Screws: 40 lbs/ft
    Cylinder Head Bolts- MOST 3L Models: 20 lbs/ft + 90 degrees (Replace bolts if removed)
    Engine Mounting Bolts to JACKPLATE: 90 lbs/ft
    Engine or Jackplate to FIBERGLASS HULL: 55 lbs/ft
    Fuel Rail Mounting Nuts: 35 lbs/ft
    Fuel Regulator
    ***, Air Regulator***, Tracker Valve Mounting Screws: 71lbs/in (That's INCH POUNDS)
    Flywheel Nut: 125 lbs/ft
    Gearcase Mounting Nuts/Rear Bolt (3 Liter Models): 55 lbs/ft
    Gear Lube Drain/Vent Screws: 100 lbs/in (That's INCH POUNDS)
    Idler Arm Spring Torque (Opti/Later EFI): APPROXIMATELY 75 lbs/in
    Idler Arm NUT: Torque to 35 lbs/ft (recommend red loctite on nut and/or stud).
    Lower Cowling Screws (4): 65 lbs/in (That's INCH POUNDS)
    Lower Engine Mount (to YOKE) nuts: 90 lbs/ft.
    Poppet Valve Retaining Bolts: 44 lbs/in THEN 89 lbs/in.
    Powerhead Mounting Nuts: Varies (will post cheat pictures below, at later date)
    Propeller Nut Torque-
    835257K6 or 835257Q6 Flo-Torq with Conical Sleeve: 100 lbs/ft
    Prop Nut Torq: ALL other Hub Kits (including Racing/Fat Shaft): 55 lbs/ft
    Reed Box Mounting Bolts: 90 lbs/in (That's INCH POUNDS)
    Reed Petal Screws: Screw WITHOUT lockwasher: 12 lbs/in (INCH POUNDS) Use RED loctite
    Reed Petal Screws: Screw WITH lockwasher: 8 lbs/in (INCH POUNDS). Use blue loctite
    Steering Cylinder (Mercury, Teleflex and U-flex): Tiller Bolt: 20 lbs/ft
    Steering Cylinder (Mercury, Teleflex and U-flex): Larger thru-tube Nuts: 50 lbs/ft
    Steering Cylinder (Mercury, Teleflex and U-flex): Smaller Ram-End Nuts: 35 lbs/ft
    Spark Plugs: 20 lbs/ft
    Thermostat Covers: 100 lbs/in (INCH Pounds!)
    Tilt Tube (through transom brackets/swivel bracket): 45 lbs/ft (note- errors in manuals)
    TILT (center) Cylinder Cap (shock rod cap) for MOST models: 90 lbs/ft
    TRIM cylinder caps (3-ram systems): 90 lbs/ft
    Water Pump Retaining Screws: 60 lbs/in (INCH Pounds!)

    *** Not Recommended as a DIY Item

    Thanks Chris- will look into those. Pretty in-depth, and a couple of them vary from one engine model to another (so may not be feasible).

    Good stuff thank you Don. Can you please add Plenum bolts. My manual references 100 and 120 inch pounds I'm sure it is pre and post 2003 but not sure which is which. Thanks again.

    You are correct- there is conflicting info in many of the manuals. 120 lbs/in is best suited to all "air-handler" type intakes (down-draft throttle body models). Added to list.

    These items are internal components, and are really beyond the scope of a blanket "cheat sheet".

    A Factory Service Manual should be utilized for this type of extensive repair.
