Re: Anyone need help with a VA Claim??????? (GeoL)

It's nice to know that we were of help. The biggest problem with the VA is that a few of the local VA Officers don't reach out to the veterans and try to make them aware of what is available to them. We have to help each other, that's why our brotherhood is second to none.

You can get a hand written letter from them and that will work just fine. If you can get a copy of your medical report showing when and where you were injured would be best to have but a hand written and notarized letter ill work also. Keep a copy and send everything certified mail and keep the receipt.

Re: Anyone need help with a VA Claim??????? (LupieBasser)

Hi I am a vietnam/peacetime veteran with a 0 % disability on bilateral hearing loss.
I have been trying to get a disability for the last several years due to my hearing getting worse. VA has denied me for any hearing disability compensation. I do have hearing aids that VA provided. My hearing loss claim is still under a dispute that has gone to BVA and is under appeal. I do have a 10% disability for my stomach.

I recently submitted a claim for tinnitus that was denied. They told me the reason of denial is because there is no evidence of it being service connected. I cannot understand that since I have a hearing loss and it is service connected in both ears.
I worked as a crew chief in the US Air Force from 1973-1977 on F-4 fighters. I have several medical records in my c-file stating my hearing tests results were really bad. I almost did not get hired onto Delta Airlines after getting out of service because of my hearing until I told them I had a VA file.

In the process of resubmitting more evidence for Tinnitus, can you please help me. I have several pieces of evidence from doctors, friends, fiance, co workers, medical records, past hearing tests at Delta, and recent VA audiology. A VA audiologist wrote that I do have Tinnitus. I would really appreciate, maybe a code or something I might need to submit with the paperwork?

Re: Anyone need help with a VA Claim??????? (Hutch911)

Welcome to the BBC Hutch... It will take 60-90 day and then they will set up
a medical exam. Don't give up though no matter how long it takes, with all
the soldiers getting wounded at this time it magy take a little longer. Your claim will fall in line and no one will be placed ahead of you though. You claim is just as important as the men getting hurt or wounded that are in servive now,

Re: Anyone need help with a VA Claim??????? (deadringer6)

Hi Carl, you're amazing on this site with your info and help.. I don't know where to start. We have "talked" a few times before on this BBC forum but it was just chatting. It's awful hard relating some things in public. Almost two years ago I was told I had Type II diabetes. Then I developed a Neuropathy in my lower extremeties about naval high on down. Severe nerve problems like someone is sticking you with pins and needles and then a burning sensations like someone has laid a soldering iron against your skin. I have ended up getting some heavy duty drugs for this but the main one is a time release morphine that I am on every day so I can have some sort of life. I had no idea my service overseas may have caused this.
I also have very bad ears from having my eardrums blown out while I was over there by a satchel charge that landed real close. I couldn't hear at all for over two weeks while recuping at Cam Rahn Bay. To this day I have to have a Doctor clean them out so I don't do more damage.
What's bothering me now Carl is that I had a spinal fusion surgery on my back in December 2004. It did not go well and I have been off work since then and probably will never go back. And that's after 29 years service with the U.S. Postal Service. My point is since then I have had a serious depression problem that I have just now related to my wife and Doctor's because it was just something you didn't admit, at least people my age thought that way. The depression has brought out all sorts of Viet Nam happenings that are now intruding on my mind and life.
It is very hard to keep it together right now. The last time I saw my regular internist I asked my wife to leave the room and then related to him what I was thinking, dreaming, and kind of living all over again. After I talked to him he wrote me a script for a referral to a Doctor who is a Clinicl Psychology, Behavioral Medicine Specialist. The last time I saw my Doc he wanted me to see a plane old Psycologist but I couldn't find any that would take my insurance (that I'm going to lose very soon). But after I saw him this time I guess I moved up a notch in the crazy department?
I have mentioned before on here somewhere that I could not get an appointment to see a VA Doctor. Well, tonight in the local paper they had an article about the place I couldn't get an appointment to being added onto and being first rate in outgoing patient care. I'm going to try and call them tomorrow and get another appointment. I don't want to yell and scream but I will if I have to.
This is one of my moments that I can reasonably think straight so I thought to write this. Sorry it's so long. I was worried about other's seeing this but I really don't care anymore. I just hope it makes sense to you when you read it.
BTW, I have been put in as a Type Three because of my Purple Hearts I think.
Carl, I never checked out or have been to a VA facility since I got home. I just couldn't do it. I went to Baltimore for two straight days and sat on the main entrance floor waiting to be called when I finally said to hell with this and went home. I have hidden a lot of feelings for a long, long time and I think I better see about working on those feelings or I won't be around very much longer.
Any advice on what I can do? It's hard for me to do anything right now remember.
I'll IM you my address and phone number.
Now everyone on BBC knows I'm starting to go nuts I guess. If they didn't think that already I don't know what I've left out. It's taken me a LONG time to write this. Thanks.

Re: Anyone need help with a VA Claim??????? (deadringer6)

I am presently getting 20% for a lower back injury that happened in 1977 while on active duty in the Air Force. I am trying to get it increased because the back is getting worse. I have only 5 years until I retire with Civil Service because I have no Social Security disability monies available. My local V.A. clinic doctor recommends surgery. Two weeks ago I had x-rays and a MRI at the VA Hospital in Alexandria, La. I have an appointment this Friday for a consultation with the orthopaedic doctor. I want to wait for surgery until just before I retire just in case it's not successful. I will make more money with retirement than civil service disabilty. Can the V.A. make me get the surgery or cut off my disability payments? If I am required to have the surgery, can I use a civilian doctor instead of the V.A. ? Thanks

Re: Anyone need help with a VA Claim??????? (Bill Barham)

hi bill couldn't help but read your post and i must commend you it has taken a long time for a lot of us to begin to deal with with things we encountered over there and endured. i know i have experienced it myself. please listen to carl and get the medical help you need , you earned it and are entitled to it it is not a freeby you earned it. also a message for the guy that said he would wait till after the first of the year to present his claim my advice is don't wait do it now as carl can attest to the sooner you make a claim that is the date that va will use if crsc is going to be involved and any back pay entitled as i understand it.
