Fished yesterday and today both and the fish are just flat out biting here. Yesterday I was mostly a guide and took some guys out that live away from here and don't get to fish much. I didn't fish a whole lot trying to let them catch them. We had about a dozen fish total with the best 5 going around 12 lb. Today 5/27, me and one of my team tournament partners went out and we flat smoked them, or I did at least. He caught the first two fish on a buzzbait, one a 3 lber and the other a 2 lber, and then he got a fishing lesson. Of course I'd never tease a guy about something like that. I had one that weighed 5 1/4 lb. That was the only fish we actually weighed but the best 5 fish would have easily went 18 lb. We had at least 20 fish total and most of them weighed at least 1 1/2 lb. Theres just a lot of good quality fish biting right now. They are feeding back up after spawning and not that I don't want to reveal a key bait, but there really isn't one right now. You can catch them pretty well however you want to. Water temp in most the creeks is in the upper 70's and for the most part its a post spawn bite. The fish are still shallow. Its just flat out fun on the pool right now. I've been throwing spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwaters, brushhogs, jigs, pretty much anything I've wanted to catch them on has worked.

Thats a bad weekend to be down here for a club T. Thats the same day as the BFL. It will be very crowded and the fish will be getting a lot of pressure.

The bite in Lusk, Miller and Grand Pierre was not there. We did ok out in the main river around wood using spinnerbaits.

Ohio River - Tournament Update. - July 14th - Smithland Pool

Caught 2 keepers for 3 lbs 13oz. Lost one that would have went about 5 lbs. I would have placed in the top 10 if I would not lost that fish.

The fishing was tough, I heard they drew water overnite which made for a much tougher bite during the day. No water was being pulled during the tournement.

Water level was about 6 inches low from normal pool.
The Air temp was a steamy 92 degrees by 1:00pm and Sunny.
Water temp was around 80 to 83.

It only took a little over 11 lbs to win . If I would have just caught one more 2lb fish I would had cut a check.

I finished 42 out of 117 boats. Got some points and moved up in the standings.

    Next tournament...Lake Shelbyville.

It was tough in the BFL, I locked out and only caught 3 fish. Weighed 5-14. Barely enough to cash a check, 21'st place. My smallies just didn't bite very good. I had about a 3 lb smallie and about a 2 lb smallie and just a 12 inch skinny largemouth to go with them. It was sure tough on me.

I fished the BFL also. Went to a spot where my partner and I caught 11-5 2 weeks prior in the SIC college tournament. Checked the spot on Friday and all was good. Current was there, bait was there, gar were there and a quick check showed the bass were still there.

Found 2 more spots within a two mile stretch of river and shook off keeper bites on both spots.

Saturday morning make the run, no current, zero, nada. Did manage two 1-8 fish and lost another about the same size. Went from thinking I had an opportunity to catch 10-11 pounds and finished 51st with 2-15. Pathetic and disappointing. Backup plan also failed as the creek where we culled fish in the SIC tournament was dead! Moved up 8 spots to 30th overall. Got to get them on Shelbyville.
