    Question on networking

I'm installing and a 16" hds live, 12' elite FS, and active target2. The FS will be on the bow and only transducer hooked to is will be the active target black box through the ethernet port. He would like the ability to get the info(mainly temp, mapping, and level) from his new transom hd transducer that came with the 16' live unit. Could I just run a network cable from the FS unit to the live unit or do I still need to add a NMEA backbone?

NMEA2000 should be run as well to share GPS info between the two units. If another transducer was installed down the road, you would need NMEA to share that data as well. Better to run everything now than to have to go back and install it later.

You can get by with connecting the AT to the console Live unit with Ethernet and then the Live to the bow also with Ethernet. This is the only way as the FS only has a single Ethernet port. You will have full map chip sharing, waypoint sync, and full transducer access to any transducer on the network. I am almost positive if set up correctly in the Sonar Installation menu temp could also be available although that data is typically shared over NMEA. For most of us, both networks are desired and required if you wish to utilize a heading sensor like a Point 1

Gotcha. That's basically what he's wanting to do.

Doing it through the console unit, will it have a slight delay from being truly live?

I really don't understand this FS on the bow vs the HDS 16 Its best to put your best unit where you fish especially with AT, The screen resolution on the 16 will blow away any image you get on the FS, by both size and Resolution.

Transducers have nothing to do with NMEA 2000 unless you are installing a NMEA transducer and nobody but saltwater guys do that. Ethernet shares all GPS and Transducer data. For a Bass Boat the only NMEA requirerments are the Ghost and Point 1 electronic compass or Temp sensors.
