I am going on vacation this summer to Nags Head with the wife and kids. I'm thinking about carring the boat and maybe fish East and West lakes. I've heard of people making the run across the sound and fishing them in tournaments. Is anyone catching fish there. Also is Kitty Hawk Bay any good these days?
You need to get up with Basshunter2006. He's fishing today, but should be around tonight. He's very familiar with those waters.
East Lake can be the best thing going on the Sound at times. I used to run to East Lake and the Alligator from the other side quite frequently. Look for vegetation. Trick worms, ratl traps, small finesse worms, etc.

East Lake was awesome 15 years ago,like most of the areas around there it has taken a beating,Tom Manns Cove was always my favorite.

I will be out there again this June, I go two or three times a year. There is fabulous bass fishing in places you would never expect. As an example, the pond behind the Food Lion in Waves, the small ponds up around the Duck area, some of which are public.
I always take my fresh water gear, and now that our favorite state is requiring a separate salt water license, I may just go fresh water only.
I don't take the boat, I use a kayak out there. I'd love to take a shot at East Lake...
