    Newton

Did Newton Monday 8 am to last boat off lake. Tried various baits and style's Ned rig won out. Only 18 or so but on light tackle was fun lost many at boat. Got a chance to blow stink off.

I was there yesterday (Christmas Eve) and caught close to 30. A bunch of little ones on the hot side and no keepers with a jerk bait and crank bait. I went to the cold side about 2:30ish and caught 3 about 5 lbs a piece and some little ones on a football jig in 15-20 feet of water. I probably should have went to the cold side right at 1 and spent more time over there.

Haven't been in a couple of weeks, but I would imagine that the cold arm is either frozen or close to it and the warm arm is in the mid to low 40's.

I haven’t been but I do know my friend said the hot side was 45 at the ramp Saturday (Jan 18) and warmer as you went up.

I think solo open tournaments are very rare. Clubs usually fish/score solo, but you generally have to be a member.
The team thing has really taken over the local and area tournament scene, even more so on lakes like Newton with a 3 fish per person limit.

Can anyone suggest the next closest place to stay to fish newton if the sportsman's lodge is booked full? Thanks in advance.

Effingham is little over 30 minutes away. Big town. Plenty of hotels and restaurants. You could also go to Flora. About same distance but much smaller. Couple hotels and some restaurants.
