    2010 Nitro Z 8 not getting over 52 mph

Hey guys I am new to the page.

I just bought a new to me 2010 Nitro z 8 with a 200 merc xs. I have read a bit on this page about speed and trim. I feel like there is something not right with my set up. The boat the way I bought it has a furry 24p with holes unplugged. The outboard is 4 inches from pad to center of prop. It has one Talaon power pole on the back. I installed my ulterra trolling motor and a 3rd battery for 36v. Trim fluid is full. appears to have no leaks at seals. when WOT I can not get the boat to lift very much. Water is breaking in front of the consoles. I can not break 5400 rpm. I have verified that I am getting WOT on the outboard. Before purchase, I had the motor plugged in. Motor showed no issues on computer and only has 120 hours on it. Appreciate any advise and help.

Have to ask this question due to the fact this week alone I've had two customers that had the same issue. You are trimming the motor up once on plane? The Z-8 with that motor and prop should be able to be trimmed fully up while on plane without any issues. Other than that you might want to raise the motor up just a tad, 3 1/2 would be about factory spec for that boat, then tweek it from there.

Yes I am trimming up once on plane. But it does not seem that I am getting full trim on plane. Also rooster tail is way over motor cowling.

Where did you put the extra battery? Jackplate? Sounds like overtrimming to get the bow up or the engine is too high. A fury won’t lift a heavy bow . Bravo or tempest may be better

I saw that on another post. I looked at that two nights ago and it does not seem to have that issue.

What is the factory plate? 6,8 10"? Fury's are not normally the prop of choice on most older 2 stroke nitro's. PTP probably needs to be closer to 3.5 but just don't think that Fury is going to pull the bow enough to do what you want unless you have it worked. 23 Tempest plus is probably better suited

Something to try as well strip everything from the front of the boat (if the troll motor has a quick release pull it as well) and run it with the PTP 3.25-3.5 and see how it reacts. My assumption is that it will push to 5800 or more with the Fury.

I would agree with the comment about trying a 23P and raising your PTP to 3.5". That 200 is not really the ideal motor for that setup.....fairly underpowered.

Underpowered for sure, should be able to get in the low 60s though.

Yes agreed on being under powered. I am researching to make it a 250 however I want to figure this issue out before I put any more big money into the boat. Is ptp 3.5 from 4 inch a big difference
    ?

If you switch to a Tempest you will want to raise it for sure. I think the Fury props like to run a little deeper so your 4" is probably about the sweet spot with your current prop.....but with only hitting 5400 RPM, it sounds like you are over propped.

i owned 2012 z8 with 250 pro xs here is what i would do being its only a 200 add bobs 2 inch setback spacers to jackplate/ motor side this boat likes 12 inchs of setbacks fury 24 is too much prop and not good at lifting a heavy hull spend the money and buy a 24 pitch Bravo 1 XS 8 pvs holes not the FS r a marks 24 pitch razor 4 XL its a bravo clone and cheaper make sure he puts 8 pvs holes in it u should get a whole lot of lift and should hit 6000 rpm and about 64-65 mph keep the fury as a spare

    OK,
I got to try a couple props on my boat. Here is what I have come up with in findings. Got better with the 23 but still have about 300 rpm before red line. Any advise at this point?
    Prop #1 tempest pitch 25
    5400 RPM max
    55-57 MPH
    Water broke at driver’s seat
    No more than 1/2 trim

    Prop #2 Fury 23 pitch
    5600 RPM max
    62 MPH
Water Broke 3 ish feet from back of boat
    5/8 trim

What's your PTP? Did you change the PTP when switching back and forth between the Tempest and Fury?
Looking at your numbers, you might want to try a smaller pitch Tempest and verify your PTP is close to 3.5"....that's where the Tempest will like to be.

62 is about right for that boat with an underpowered motor on it.

Good friend has a 2011 Z8 with the same 200 and is getting 64 mph at ~6,000 rpms running a Tempest Plus 25P. Same prop as my 2015 Z8 with a 250 HP. Not sure of his PTP, but he has no issues getting out the hole and top end is reasonable for the 200.
