I'm the upgraded version of the 80's. The early 90's were the last of the great times to be a kid. I feel bad for these new generations. They have no idea what its like to be a real kid.

Some guys sawed off old front forks and pounded them on the forks to make them higher like a chopper.

    Yessir...

On my 7th birthday in 1969, dad took me downtown to Sharp's Schwinn and I got a brand new, dark blue Stingray (minus the sissy bar).

That bike became a part of me, and was there for most of the cuts, scrapes, bruises and scars I collected over the next several years.

It was eventually converted to a BMX-style bike as were most in that era.

    Good times!

Yes we did! Those Shwinn had solid forks so you had to find a huffy to saw.

That was really, really, close to me, too.

Mine was a girl's bike though, as it was on sale cheap at some gas station in town. In 1972, my Uncle Denny welded a bar across the frame, and no one ever knew.

Any body have one of the Schwann crate bikes? I think that was what tgey were called. I had one cool looking bike that had a drum brake of some kind on the front wheel. It looked cool but wasn’t a good riding bike. Wouldn’t coast worth a crap

I got that exact same bike in a dark midnight blue with flake and tassles on the end of the grips. Silver and blue striped banana sest with a blue S in the middle. No tall chopper seat back either.

I quickly modified it to have skyway tuffs lean back seat post with bmx seat and handle bars. Never did the cut offs.

I asked for a schwinn Race Inc. my older brother picked that bike out for my mom at Christmas time. I was not happy about the type of bike but still happy to have one. True story fun fact.

Mom ran out of gas coming home from Christmas shopping and had to ride the bike home Chrismas eve. I knew nothing about it until years later. Think back to the lines at gas stations and how difficult it was to get gas in the 70's

Yep, that was me without the sissy bar. Come to think of it, I should have had that bar with all the times I whacked my head doing wheelies.

I did what your Uncle Denny did for a kid in my neighborhood that had a hand-me-down bike from his sister. That kid thought I was the greatest man in the neighborhood because it stopped all the other kids teasing.

Yes, except mine had a 5 spoke mag wheel on the rear and small wheel on the front. Of course with Evil Knievel antics the rear wheel broke and the replacement was a spoke wheel!

Thank God there weren't any cameras around like today.
Those darn things have taken all the fun out of life.
Remember when you used to ride a bike many miles to go fishing.

we set up a plywood ramp over a shopping cart in the condos we lived in. This one kid had a pedal with out the outside just the inner circle peg. He hit the ramp and ate $hit when the ramp collapsed and ended up stabbing the peg peddle right through the middle of his forehead. Damn straight we did crazy $hit He lived to tell about it

I hit a table top jump at Honda hills once and landed in a wheelie going down a 15' drop on the back side of the jump. Flipped back landed on my a$$ and slid all the way down the hill on my a$$.

Another time I hit a jump and the fron't wheel came off in mid flight lol.

Growing up, I beat my self up more than anyone. Then came dirt bikes lol.
