    Dogwood winter

You can bank on it. Every year when the Dogwood trees are in bloom we have a cold spell. It was 33 degrees here this morning.

Ours have bloomed and gone already. They bloom around here about the time the turkeys start gobbling.

We had frost this morning and probably again tomorrow.
My dogwoods are probably close to another week until they bloom, but that's probably atleast 2 weeks earlier than normal.

I had frost this morning and it felt good. I wasn't ready for the 87 we had last week. One more cold night tonight and we should be done with it. But up at the Ontario cabin they have three very cold nights this week, why we learned to never ever open the place until May arrives.

Here in NC we have dogwood winter and blackberry when the blackberries bloom. After that get ready for the heat and humidity until fall.

In my area definitely the 3rd cool morning. Dogwoods already bloomed, but the blackberries are in full bloom. Every year. I have always heard it called blackberry winter. Generally marks the last cool weather before it starts the hot weather. Time for my tomato plants to go in the ground.

We had an awesome Dogwood bloom this year. We have maybe 40 of them on our acreage, and the hills and hollows in our area are just full of them. I always love that time of year. But the light frost we got yesterday didn't do them any harm. The flowers had all pretty much dropped in the last few days.

Dogwoods are the prettiest in full bloom. We didn't have a frost, but yesterday morning it was 36 degrees here in the river valley of Arkansas.
