I am originally from his home town, New Athens, IL. He is a legend in this area. Very kind man that loved to talk baseball. Whitey ball was his way to play the game, speed and defense.

Was nothing like Whitey ball, stealing home was one of his greatest plays

I went to grandsons school baseball game and they played on Whitey Herzog field in New Athens il. My cousin was on a flight with him and said all Whitey talked to him about was fishing. Card fans loved Whitey and his small ball game of Whitey Ball. RIP sir.
