Watching the Elites on the Harris Chain. It dawned on me, that I didn't know why they have locks on the canals. what's the purpose of them?

All due respect, you ask some weird questions when it comes to tourney fishing.

So how many of those lakes occur naturally vs manmade or were they always there but not connected?

I'm sorry. Perhaps I'm the only one that doesn't know everything.

That wasn't my intention whatsoever, sorry if it came out that way, but you tend to like stirring the pot.....

I feel like it's high time we crack down on these pot stirrers.

I've ground the pot but hardly ever stir it.

The lakes are natural but all freshwater in Florida is tightly managed. It wasn’t that many years ago the state was an uninhabitable swamp.

From what I have been told by members of the Herlong family here in Leesburg FL is that they where installed to help with fluctuating the water levels years ago when the orange groves in Howey-in-the-Hills and Yalaha would actually trailer the oranges across Lake Harris by horse drawn trailers to the packing houses in Leesburg. There are still some of the old dock post from the piers submerged on the south side of Big Lake Harris.

Well at least you came to the right place!
If professionals who's careers depend on catching fish use FFS then that's what I'm using. Might be too simple of a philosophy but makes sense to me.

Are the locks free to use or is there a fee?

Most of us don't know everything, that's why we ask on here.
Some of us just think we do.

As much cash as the BBC has just laying around I think you're supposed to just fling a couple hundred to the lock master as you go through.
    Hi Mike.
