Broken speedometer/ gas gauge every winter

I live in Mn. Cold. I have a Merc 150 4s on a Basshawk. . I’ve replaced the speedo/fuel gauge combo 4 times in the last 4 Springs. The fuel gauge needle goes all the way around and binds with the needle on the fuel gauge. Don’t care how fast I’m going, but need to know how much gas I have. I keep it in an unheated garage. This year I pulled the tube off the back of the gauge thinking that would help. It has crept up to 50mph while sitting stationary in my garage. I’m afraid when I reattach the tube, and put the boat in the water the speedometer is going to fail again. Any thoughts or words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks, Sam

More PIA-remove the gauges out of console when wintering.
Less PIA-cover them with a towel or similar insulation front/back.

On the speedometer hose, take loose at the gauge and blow water back out pitot tube.

Thought of that. Shrink wrapped to wires on the speedo better than I thought. Tough to get off

Get vvm and skip the gauges…..they are not accurate anyway.

The trick is to drain the water out of the line prior to winter.

I would not hook the speedo back up. disconnect it and forget it.
