Francis Scott Key bridge on I-695 collapses

About two and a half hours ago after being struck by a large freighter. Terrible tragedy for certain.

As someone who grew up in the area and travelled that bridge daily for many years, it's shocking. A Baltimore and Maryland landmark.

This will have lasting economic impacts not just for the area but for the country.

A large section of the bridge and roadway is in the river. If the fall didn't kill a motorist the 48 degree water could. The water is obviously deep there, a cargo ship was using it when it hit the bridge.
    A clear huge tragedy.

    for all.

Looks to me like the ship was not in the channel, and/or it hit a support.

Just saw another video. It looks like the ship was in the channel and suddenly, (as far as a cargo ship can) it veers Starboard and dead centers the support.

Just watched the video. Wow. Very sad for all the folks that were on the bridge at the time.

Definitely not in the Chanel. From some of what I just read, it was and then shifted south into the support.

Horrible absolutely horrible. Was definitely a construction crew in the center span. They didn’t stand a chance. I assume there was a harbor pilot behind at the helm
