Hey guys I'm about due for new trolling motor batteries and was curious if anyone has been successful fitting to group 31s and a cranking battery in the boat?
It seems that the dimensions vary by manufacturer.
Any advice?
Thanks
Ron

I ground all the side lip off the factory plastic battery trays and installed two group 31 AGM for the trolling motor and a 27 AGM for the starting battery. It is snug and I still strap them down but I cannot see being in water where they would move at all. All my batteries are AGM Duracell.
I have three 31-series AND a 27-series (4 total batteries) in my RT198. I realize the question was re: a 188 but I believe the battery compartments on the two boats are relatively similar in size
I have 3 - 31 AGM in mine. Tight is right!

TM Eliminator; Helix 7 G2N SI Combo F/R; HydroWave KVD; BBT 4" Angled Bow Mount; Durasafe Locks for Electronics and Ultrex;
Twist Step Boarding Ladder; EZEE Step ES1; BAC RAC Rod Storage; Motor Mate Transom Saver
I also have three 31’s, once you get them in there they won’t be moving around. Modifications to the trays are needed and definitely measure the batteries you look at because minor differences could ruin your day.
Thanks for the responses. I didn't even think about removing the edges of the battery trays. Great idea

I used three of these trays to fit 3 group 31s. No modification required.
