That was a young man’s game. Still is.
That seat does not look comfortable.

I seen similar photos recently of the early mig cockpits and even a me 262. I had the same thoughts about being stuck in one for a mission.

Cool plane. Didn’t the pilot sit on their parachute pack? Probably to busy to worry about being cramped.
No, but they were probably too busy watching for enemy fighters to notice.
Very cool plane.
One of my favorites the P-38!
Man has technology come along way. Anyone know if that is a primitive heads up display or just a mirror to see behind? 15's have mirrors. 16's canopy has better visibility. My grandpa told me if it wasn't for the P-38s in Guam, I would not be here.

Lightning was always my favorite WW2 plane. I bet I built 3-4 models of them when I was a kid.

My P38 was a can opener !
Crammed in that can while getting shot at!

Hi Mike.
Yes I can and did so lots of times as a kid. Really wanted to be a pilot as a kid, but it was not meant to be.
My Uncle was a P-38 mechanic in the Aleutian Islands during 1942.
Seemed to be used more in the Pacific due to wide open spaces. The top two American Aces in the Pacific in WWII drove P-38's so it held its own against the Zeros.
