Looking at a 2011 ford ranger 4x4 with a 4.o v6. 140 000 miles , can anyone give me any inside if these are reliable and what to lookout for. They want $13500. Will it pull my 518 ranger decent.

Don't think I would want pull that boat with that small truck. Stopping could be problem. You could get full size 10-12 year old truck for that amount

One of the most bullet proof Trucks. But will say, you would be better with a full size to tow.
$14k for a 13yo truck with 160k miles? Seems very overpriced imo.
According to the google machine, Rangers only have a tow capacity of 3100lbs. Your 518 is over the tow ratings.
i would recommend passing on the truck, I don’t think you’d be happy with it’s performance
1995 Ranger 481v
1995 Johnson Fast Strike 175hp
Had one, little older though.my opinion is
hell no.uncomfortable,rode terrible and my
295 pro stratos was sketchy behind it,sucked gas as bad as my 95 2500 5.7.
But you may love it.
Well, i pulled a TR21 with a Toyota 4 cylinder when i first got it. Did it like it? NO. I couldn't get to 5th gear unless i was going down hill.... Flatfooted, all the time. I hated to get rid of the truck, it was awesome. But moved to a 2000 F-250 which i still have
I have a mint 2012 f150 with 30 k less miles and I don't think it's worth $13,500.
I wouldn't pay that amount for that truck and I sure wouldn't pull that size boat with one.

Treat others like you want to be treated when on the water EVEN WHEN IN A TOURNAMENT! No fish is worth having a confrontation because you cut someone off or came in on top of someone.
It’s overpriced and will not tow a boat that size very well. If your just got a few miles to the ramp might be ok but that’s about it. I had the same truck just not 4 x4. Towed a small aluminum boat ok.
they are asking more than those old rangers are worth.
Ford Ranger - the vehicle at the front of the line of cars going 45 in a 55......the vehicle that takes off from a red light like a turtle.
That should be a good reliable truck but I wouldn't want to tow an 18' glass boat with it. That motor has plenty of power for towing but the braking is where you could get into trouble.
Just paid that for a ‘13 f150 with a 5.0. Keep looking.
Had an older model of same truck. Was lucky to get 18mpg hwy. Towing mpg was about 10.
I pulled a 17’6” javelin with it, towed fine, but was a smaller boat.
Wasn’t my favorite truck. And you are over paying imho.
What so many people don’t seem to appreciate [not necessarily the OP] is that towing with a vehicle close to its tow rating is a bad economic decision. Engine working really hard get worse mileage than a bigger engine would, and every component of the vehicle is stressed, which can lead to very expensive repairs. Transmissions do not like working at capacity all the time, just to name one component. Brakes, etc. on down the line.
Pulling is not the issue stopping is the issue.
