    Smallmouth or Largemouth?

Recently moved to an area of the country that has world class Smallmouth fishing. I grew up fishing for Largemouth but I've never fished for Smallmouth. I'm curious... are there more Largemouth fisherman in here or more Smallmouth? Those that have fished for both, if you could only fish for one or the other, which would you pick?

Smallies are more fun to catch and look cooler to me but I usually catch them in open water. Throwing at laydowns along the bank for largemouth is also fun but if I had a choice, it would be for smallies.

I'm more of a spotted bass guy. Lots of bang for your buck with them fun fishing if smallies aren't a reasonable option.

I've made the transition to full time smallmouth after relocating as well. Couple times a year I have to get my largie fix, but I always end up back on the brown guys.

It's pretty close to 50/50 in Maine but LM are gaining all the time. SM are more fun to catch even though they avg smaller weights

I'm lucky, I don't have to choose. Where I fish most of the time, I can motor a hundred yards to go from smallmouth to largemouth.

I would fish for smallies all day if I could but like to cast at structure and other largie stuff too much.

I've heard that pound for pound you can't beat the fight of a smallie. Can't wait to catch one.

I don't know about that (white perch, landlocked salmon, and even pumpkinseeds are strong contenders) but after a few 3# river smallies your arms will be just about wore out
