Could 1/4 aluminum plate be used for a bow mount plate (electronics)? 1/4 steel?

Could 1/4 aluminum plate be used for a bow mount plate (electronics)? Should I use 1/4" steel instead? The span will be about 7 or 8 inches, bolted on the 2 ends (nothing for support under center.)
It will support 2 12" graphs currently but may add a 3rd 9" later.

I wouldn't use steel but Aluminium should be fine. I think 1/2" Aluminium would probably be best. It's easy to work with, lighter, won't rust and won't be a potential source of magnetic interference. I use a lot of delrin but it can get expensive.

what 3/8" 6061 aluminum? Does it have issues cracking?

1/4" 6061 aluminum is more than enough (actually probably overkill). I usually use delrin myself but we have lots of scrap pieces in our shop.

I like the 1/2" because you can tap it and then size the bolts so they don't stick out the bottom. Get it powder coated and it will look great.

I did mine with 1/8 and some 3/16. It is plenty strong. I've posted pictures on here in the Triton section, search my posts and I'm sure they will pop up. I'm not the only one here either, lots of people working through the challenges of not being able to find factory replacements on older boats during updates . Mine has a bend/ curve which may have made it more rigid. I'd skip the steel completely. If you look at all the manufacturers they are using aluminum.

Go look at the different sizes. 1/4”is plenty.
