Installing lowrance s3100 and noticed a second Ethernet port that is different that the others I’m familiar with The 5 pin is standard. Why the 12 pin port?
why is it different and what is it for?
thank you

Here you go
Future support for gigabit Ethernet. Current implementation is 100 megabit hence Rj45 8 pins with only 5 pins in use. Gigabit uses all 8 pins of the rj45 connector. Suspect they went with 12 pin connector since perhaps there ports will not auto detect speed to prevent folks from trying to connect 100mb to a 1gig port.
It escapes me why they didn't make this a hub as well, similar to the SS3D Module. Would have really been handy and easier to stomach that 1K pricetag :(.
Green light and working well
just installed and tested 3100
