    Lookking at the 3.0 duramax

Anyone have the 3.0 duramax with a small lift and 35" tires that's used to pull your boat? Im on the fence about getting rid of my current truck with the 5.3 and upgrading to the 3.0 diesel. I tow dang near every weekend of the year, whether it be the hunting buggy, or the bass boat. Was really interested to see how the MPG was on the baby duramax with a lift and 35" tire set up while towing and just around town driving.

I’m also interested in this as far as the tires go. I’ve got 2023 at4 with the 3.0 and pull a ranger 521 about a 100 mile round trip to the lake and can get 18mpg pulling the boat. Daily driving is about 25mpg. It’s not the speedster that my previous 6.2 was but the 3.0 seem to do just as good if a job towing anything.

Mine isnt lifted and has stock tires. I have had a Tundra, and a 3.5 ecoboost in the past, and the duaramax pulls better than both. Fuel mileage while towing is 17-18 mpg going 75 mph. Only issue is the lower horsepower makes the truck feel slower compared to the ecoboost.

My wife has a 2023 AT4 Duramax with a 3.5" lift and larger tires (not 35"). Pulls the boat fine - We probably get 20mpg when in tow. 20-25mpg around town.

I had a 2021 Silverado 4 wheel drive with the 3.0 and it had 17" wheels.
Bought a 2023 (same truck) that has 20" wheels. I had both trucks long enough to swap wheels as the 17" wheels got about 3 MPG better than the 20's

2024 High Country Tahoe with 22" rims is getting us right at 25MPG, 80-85% highway. Haven't towed anything with it.

Ive looked all over the internet for something on this and cant find a dang thing. Figured someone here was towing with a similar set up. I have the 5.3 leveled with 34" tires and im getting around 11-12 towing and 15 around town. i can get close to 20 on the interstate driving 75-80. if i stay with a 1500 i will lift it this go around and put 35s on it. i hunt a lot and having that extra ground clearance is crucial. I'm very curious as to how the 3.0 duramax will perform set up like this.

I have been thinking about one as I currently have a gas v8 and a car - combined about 35K miles a year. thought about getting rid of both and going to one vehicle but the math doesn't work out to any savings when you add in the extra price of diesel and def its pretty much a wash vs just driving a gas v8.

this is with factory ride height/tires.

Is there a longevity benefit for the 3.0 over the gas engine and not cycling through new vehicles as often? I drive about 30k annually.

With all of the issues that GM is having right now with Transmissions I'd be scared to buy any of the GM 8 speeds.

If I’m not mistaken all of the newer GMC trucks have the 10 speed transmission. On another note I will say that the DEF consumption will almost double while towing.

You can't even get a 3.0L with a 8 speed LOL The dude in the video had a bad glow plug and he is now happy with his truck, turns out GM put out a service bulletin for his year truck that the crap dealership never checked.

    You're claiming you have a 6.6 that gets 18-20 while towing ?
