Made a new friend on Chickamauga last Saturday

Went down to Chickamauga last Saturday and had this guy follow me down the bank about half a mile. I got concerned he would get to far from his house so ended up turning around and leading him back to his house.

A buddy and I went down to Texas about 20 years ago. We were fishing a small lake and there was a stray dog wondering around. I felt terrible for it so I gave it part of my sandwich. That poor dog followed us around the rest of the afternoon and wound up swimming across the lake trying to get to us when we left. My buddy still gives me a hard time about it. Glad the one in these videos had a home already.

I have never had that happen to me. Plenty that looked ready to jump in though.

Pretty sure that guy is a CBR. He was just keeping an eye on you. He wasn’t going to get lost, and probably makes that swim every day on his own

Picture this, Pitch black darkness, night fishing, no lights. did not know anything was around, when all of a sudden there was something trying to crawl into the back of my boat to get out of the lake, It made the most awful racket trying to get into the boat, I was getting concerned, I did not know what was trying to crawl into the boat. I turned on a light to find an exhausted black lab making every attempt to get out of the water, there is no telling how long the dog had been treading water, I dropped my rod and took a chance that I would not get bit and helped it onto the back deck and he just collapsed. He had a collar and owner info was on it, 1:00 in the morning I called the owner and told them what had happened, the dog had been missing for several hours that day. The owner was glad to have him back.

This put you as the boater in position where you needed to make the decision whether to try to take him back home or leave him. I'm sure you did the right thing.

Have had that happen on a smaller scale on my local private lake(s). A family on the lake has a yellow lab that would jump in the water and 'chase' boats. It would go out a ways until teh water became either too deep or the pup sensed it couldn't catch my Pond Prowler or pontoon. This lasted for 3 summers as the dog obviously got tired of it or got tired of the owner hollering. The owner hollering was the funniest part as the pup seemed to do it just to get the reaction.

    Gotta love Labs.

There's one on a local lake that makes his way through ~10' of reeds on the bank to swim around the boat for a bit.

    He never follows far, though.

That reminds me of a dog I fished out of the delta one night. It was definitely tired from all the swimming. Brought it back to the boat launch dock and it wanted to go back in the water. Had to chase it off into the park away from the water.
