    Problem with graph mounts

I have the older Ram ball type graph mount and when hitting small waves they fall foward. They are as tight as can be by hand, would friction tape around the ball do anything.

Try knocking any 'glazed' rubber surface off the ball with some fine grit sandpaper... should snug it up some.

Had the same problem and sanding like hatcreek said helped for awhile. I ended switching to Balzout mounts and they are rock solid.

I tried the anti skid tape deal and when it got really hot the adhesive on the tape would get soft and made everything worse. The solve for this is get the ram wrench and crank it down....your graph won't move...

An upgraded mount such as the Cornfield Fishing Monitor Mount would be a much better long term solution than trying to make a Ram work. Can it work, yes. But you will be repeating the repair more often than not.

Along with roughening up the surfaces as mentioned, replace the OE knob with a stainless nylon nut and tighten it with a wrench.

I've used this for years. Have a 1.5" ball and it easily supports a 12" graph:

Available at TackleWarehouse and cheap enough to try. If it doesn't work for you, not that much money wasted.

edit: for those who are saying wrench it down, I tried that first and ended up ruining the ball. Had to replace the entire mount as the jaws also got messed up from over tightening.

More than hand tight is the answer

I bought one of those Ram wrench, think it's only for the largest ram ball size (maybe). My MFD on bow doesn't move period, waves & 65GPS.
