    Rain gear

I fished in hard rain all day yesterday. I was wearing Sims bibs and jacket. I also sprayed silicone on both the day before. My arms were soaked by days end. I don't know if it was from water running down my arms somehow or if water just sitting on my arms vs running down legs etc. Do I need to treat with something different or not I paid good bit of money for outfit a few years ago but not sure I have fished in such a sustained down poor or not.

    Tks

Interesting. Perhaps the shoulder area rain protection broke down due to flexing. Rain, as well as many other things, runs downhill.

Ask Rudolph the Red. Rudolph the Red knows rain gear.

Why did you spray silicone on it? I don't think that is recommended by the mfgr.

I guess the old boy scout in me made me spray it, we sprayed that stuff on everything. Seemed like the thing to do knowing it gonna pour.

I desperately need new rain gear. Mine is so old and rotted I might as well just wear a screen!

Omg, NEVER spray silicon on performance fabrics. Good luck with that jacket now. It won’t breath at all now. You’re going to have to wash it several times with proper detergent to get that crap out of it. 303 fabric guard is the BEST DWR restorer. I have posted in this forum several times the correct method for the best results.
I just treated my ski outerwear the other day and skied yesterday in a heavy rain for 4 hrs. Water just beaded and ran off all day. Stayed bone dry under it. Good luck.

The membrane doesn’t matter, those care instructions apply to all permeable membranes, whatever the name. What the cleaning does along with the dryer/iron is re activate the DWR that is applied to the face of the fabric. It is important to keep the dwr active as it keeps water from soaking the outer fabric and rendering the membrane useless for breath ability and internal moisture travel.

It's probably coming in from the sleeve openings. While your actually fishing, your hands are up above your elbows. Thus running down your arms.

The way to test is stand in the shower with your jacket on, arms down.

Good rain gear are sealed at the wrists.

Is this thread even real? I’m having a harder and harder time telling between people honestly seeking help and trolling.

No, good rain gear has velcro at the wrist. If you want to stop the water running down your arm, purchase Tennis wrist bands and wear them all day. I buy the 3 inch size. Since using them, I have never had an issue with my arms

My Stormr suit had me soaked through yesterday as well. I just ordered some NIkwax as that was recommended by several on here.

    303 is superior to nikwax.

    Trolling?

I fished in day long down pour got wet with Simms outer wear. Jacket mainly around back of neck and top of arms wet. I had velcro around wrist tight All stuff in pockets wet in coat but bibs ok. Pockets zipped. Yes I paid a lot of money for it 3-4 years ago. Trying to figger out what deal is .
