Problem in the basin goes far beyond fishing pressure.

The COE couldn't do a better job of silting it in and stopping water flow if their goal was to plant soybeans all over it. Totally screwed up a lot of places.

What are they doing (what did they do) to stop water flow? I am not familiar with that organization.

For starters, blocking off/restricting American Pass, Thibodaux chute, and blue point chute killed a lot of the south end

They manage it for what it is, a flood control basin. They don't manage it to be a fishery.

It made a great difference for those lakes. The best solution is never wait on the government to fix your problem.

This is the real answer. We get lucky when it goes through a 5-10 year cycle when fishing is good.unfortunately it aint right now!

Yeah I agree but it’s the place where
lots of Louisiana fisherman frequently fish. They deserve their fishery
to be treated like most other Louisiana fisheries .

While I fish south and north my most of my time I spend in the central part of the Basin (Sorrell, Pigeon and Belle River). For that part of the Basin, I am not sure we get those "good cycles" anymore.

There are some projects that they plan on doing to divert some river flow in the basin to improve water quality but could take a while.

Hopefully, we will have a good flood year to help flush out the spillway.
Looks promising with the snow they are getting in the midwest.

Hopefully the water will be high during the spawn to so the fish can get back in the woods to spawn away from fisherman .

I still want to know what happened a couple years ago.. what was it that forced all the fish to levee to be snatched up by the ice chest full…. Fishing in the interior basin hasn’t been good for me in a while…

Ive heard of a few ppl doing that in years past if the water was high enough during the spawn , but nothing like it was just a few years ago . They murdered the fish on the levee a couple years ago .
