Gas fill - hard to keep from back flowing at pump

Just bought a brand new 721 Pro XP. The gas tank is hard to fill. I’ve only tried it one station, so maybe that’s the issue. Do y’all have a problem keeping the gas pump from cutting off. We tried a lot of different ways, angles flow rate etc.

S L O W E S T flow rate I can hold on the handle without the pump cutting out. Takes awhile but saves time as I don't have to keep cycling the pump. Also once dialed in stay close to the fill up. Have had a couple overflows and they are nasty to clean up.

Before you start filling, turn the key to run. Then start filling and put the butt of the handle at 2oclock. After it flows for about 10seconds, you can put nozzle in regular position and mash it. Works for me anyway.

Pump handle upside down works best I've found.

so my 2024 model is light years easier then my 2014 when near empty

handle upside down and a moderate fill rate. with my old 2014 I used to drive it up on a 2x4 to create angle but no reason to do that now

Knock on wood, I don't have a big problem with mine.
Some gas stations require me to go slower, doesn't really make sense. I have no idea why turning the handle upside down or sideways would make a difference??

It’s probably because in your hose from the cap to the tank there is a “epa standard” plastic check valve and it’s possible that check valve is slightly off center or bent and it’s not allowing the gas to flow.

Handle upside down works fine for me, or if you find a pump with a slight decline away from the pump that helps also.

2015 and back had a reason to back up due to the check valve but that was removed in 2016 when they went back to aluminum tanks, if a new one has issues it usually the angle the boat is siting when filling allowing the fuel to flow back toward the cap, try and park with fill side higher and 2 o'clock position always best for most gas pumps, if still having issues on a newer boat may be clogged vent or charcoal filter.

when none of the recommendations mentioned work, pull the lid off and make sure the fuel feed line isn't pinched or got a huge dip in it restricting the flow.

This was my biggest concern when I ordered mine in Feb. 2020. So far I've never had any problems at multiple stations. Pumps wide open every time. This has to be a installation problem at the factory? Can't understand why it's so hit and miss.

I’ve noticed it depends on how many other pumps are running and the pressure changes when people start and stop. I put mine in upside down and keep it steady. So far so good.

same here but have not tried just a regular approach. the old bird taught me to always do the upside down approach.

I have a 2014 and it can be downright awful. I took the crappy epa thing off and it certainly helped, but it’s still not good.
