Beer drinker wants to try Bourbon

What do you suggest for a first purchase that will make me want to continue down this unhealthy and expensive road?

It’s very Healthy in moderation and does not have to be expensive. Just start out with Blantons and then we can move you on from there. I would highly recommend you start off with a single shot with an ice cube. Down the road you can start trying it neat.

Blanton's is good, very expensive in my opinion. Stick to around $50-$75, plenty of good ones in that range. One of favs in Russell's Reserve 10 year aged. As mentioned above, just an ice cube. If you have to mix it with coke, just get the cheap stuff as it won't matter.

I would highly recommend one of these. Good start would be Buffalo Trace or Weller Green label.

Same here but I'm a wimp and use a bunch of ice and a splash of water. Buffalo trace I may skip the water.

Not a bourbon but some friends introduced me to Redbreast. That I drink neat.

Don't do it, stick with beer. Reason, you may get to liking the bourbon and to add that on top of the beer will not lead to a good outcome, i've seen it up close and personal.
