Mercury 4-stroke top cowl vent recall?

So a mention on a Merc 4-stroke site but nothing more than a recall letter sent out. Anyone know anything about this?

Yep picked up a set from my dealer Tuesday. They looked up my serial number and handed me box with the two vent grills. Instructions are straight forward. They said if I brought up my boat they would install, or I could do it myself. I opted to DIY, have not installed them yet.

This is what Mercury is putting on to deal with the sharp edges.
I'll get some pics in the daylight tomorrow.

Service Bulletin 2023-30, which calls for installation of grilles on the air intakes of the upper cowling.

This is actually a recall under the Federal Safe Boating Act.

Letters are being staggered due to availability of the components (and indicate how to go about obtaining either the components or having them installed by your local dealer).

These are already installed on current production engines.

I'll be keeping these off of my cowling until I sell it, I want anything that could restrict airflow. I'm not going to sue if I'm dumb enough to slice my finger on them.

Someone would insist it had to be recalled as defective because it doesn't work the same as everyone elses.....

It looks like Grey plastic? Thought they had a chrome finish.

They're painted silver metallic to match decals installed at the factory.

Hopefully I can pick up the vents locally and I won’t have to drive 3 hours to my dealer I bought the boat from to get the parts.

Once you have received the letter from Mercury, you will be able to obtain the necessary components without having to drive 3 hours.
